Smashing Pumpkins Machina / The Machines Of God

In my opinion, the album is not on the same level as the other Pumpkins' works, but it's not to be dismissed. It can be seen as a swan song or as Corgan's last courageous evolution (since it's clear that for the ideas, he alone keeps the whole show running). It’s definitely an album that’s at times dark, at times a bit brighter, resulting from the sound evolution that Corgan began with "1979" and exaggerated with "Adore." However, for a more informed judgment, you should consider (but perhaps many do not know or have not understood) that this is a true CONCEPT ALBUM, and there is a whole story behind the songs, straddling the line between fantasy and reality... it is the parable of a young guitarist who forms a band and then loses himself in the wrong, corrupted love (the girl dies from drugs) and in the illusions of success. A kind of coming-of-age novel, quite spiritual and philosophical with a strong but very particular religiosity. Part of the story is in the CD booklet, but it has been fully published online by Corgan and can also be found translated into Italian. Definitely an initiative to appreciate.

The rock. He wanted to find a new path, and he pointed to the song 1979 as an example of the new sound he wanted to create. Adore is not the fulfillment of this intention, but it was forced upon him by the lack of a drummer and so on. For this reason, Corgan's project for a new sound may have been too deeply immersed in electronics. To understand the kind of sound he intended to achieve, perhaps the example of Machina is clearer. Still, I reiterate, not the best but an excellent album, fascinating and bold, and surely moving.

I was saying... go listen to the delicate solos of "Through Her Eyes," the one from "The Spirit Carries On," the classical guitar in "The Silent Man" and "Learning to Live," and you'll realize that we are facing not only a virtuoso guitarist but a 360-degree artist, versatile and intelligent, who is capable of doing what he wants and doing it well. Dream Theater has its lights and shadows, strengths and weaknesses, but which band doesn't? We can't just dissect a band as if it were a laboratory animal... it would be nice if all the people who listen to them or simply listen to music in general could judge intelligently instead of arguing, insulting, and arguing for the sake of it... that's why I don't believe Dream Theater are “absolutely flat”...
With this comment, I hope to have responded to Bibiane, who was asking where the emotions were and saying that Petrucci “is an excellent guitarist, but not enoughaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.” And of course, the good old progressive is always great, but don't be afraid because Dream Theater has no intention of overthrowing it by claiming to be better... they just make their music... so rest assured that listening to them won't offend anyone, not even the good old progressive bands...

I bought the ticket in November, when I had money to spare... but it still pisses me off because there were two types of tickets available: one for 32 euros (28+service fee) and one for 38 euros (33+service fee). The first one gave access to the second ring, while the second allowed access to the first ring and the main floor. Considering that this division seemed ridiculous to me since the concert was in an arena and not in a theater, and moreover there were no seats on the main floor, it turned out to be a total rip-off... those who paid more didn’t have any privilege; whoever arrived first took the spot they preferred... so I ended up spending 6 euros more than a friend of mine, and we found ourselves comfortably close in the same spots... obviously, the blame can't be on Dream, but I think it should go to the Forum's organization which has absolutely no fucking organization... the only organization is the stupid police officers at the entrance who search randomly... result: one of my friends was searched and made to take off all the caps from the plastic bottles he had (can you believe it!!!??)... while the guys below us during the concert drank several bottles of vodka in thick glass bottles (!!!)... not to mention a kid who filmed the entire concert with a camera equipped with super zoom... now, neither the vodka drinkers nor the kid with the camera bothered me, I just gave this example to show the stupidity and uselessness that is often found in the law enforcement... the same story at every concert... anyway, the band definitely overshadowed all this bullshit... and fuck it!!!

Did anyone go to the concert in Milan on February 5? Can anyone tell me the title of the song from Six Degrees they played and the one from When Dream and Day Unite? I’m not familiar with these albums yet and I couldn’t figure out which ones they were. And I also don’t know the Iron cover. Anyway, the concert was amazing: SET 1 1 As I Am 2 This Dying Soul 3 Beyond This Life 4 Hollow Years 5 ? 6 Endless Sacrifice 7 Another Day 8 ? 9 Finally Free SET 2 10 New Millenium 11 Caught in a Web 12 Portnoy Solo 13 Honour Thy Father 14 Rudess Solo 15 Erotomania 16 Voices 17 The Silent Man 18 In the Name of God ENCORE 1 19 ? Last night I was in Milan and the concert was spectacular… where do you find a band these days that plays for 3 hours and so well? A LaBrie like I never would have expected, simply divine… Rudess is a god who does impossible things with the keyboard… Petrucci and Portnoy need no comments… unfortunately, Myung was penalized by the volume and didn’t sound great… nevertheless, a well-structured and varied setlist… it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen and I can only compare it to Roger Waters two years ago… the new songs are much better live than on the CD… at the end of the first set they played Finally Free and I couldn’t believe my ears… the delirium for Another Day (how does LaBrie manage to be so good?) but the peak of magnificence was reached with the trilogy A Mind Beside Itself (Erotomania Voices The Silent Man), a masterpiece… the encores were something unimaginable with a cover of Iron Maiden and after a new fake exit, they returned for the grand finale of Metropolis pt1… a dream, guys… a dream you must experience…
