You could say a lot of interesting things about this album without falling into the trivial... for example, the concept on which the album is based and why: namely, the concept of lack, absence, the non-presence of a person not just physically but also in spirit... in fact, the Floyd, after the success of The Dark Side of The Moon, were overwhelmed by fame; they reached what they had always worked towards together, and they felt tired and fulfilled... Waters says that in the studio, everyone was absent; there was a lack of a unifying spirit, and that's where it all began... the lyrics thus spoke of Syd Barrett, of his madness to which Shine is dedicated (and it's scandalous not to mention this), Have a Cigar and Welcome to the Machine talk about the music industry that kills creativity and crushes artists in the grip of success, compromise, and money... and so they also talk about Syd. In Wish You Were Here, they speak of a person we miss, who we would like by our side... whether it be a parent, a friend, a lost love... anyway, one of the most beautiful songs of all time...
A few anecdotes: during the recordings of the album, a chubby, bald, and quite apathetic gentleman showed up at the studios. The Floyd found him sitting there and for a while wondered who he was, but they didn't pay much attention to him. Only later did someone say that it was Syd Barrett, whom they had not seen or heard from in many years... and he appeared just as they were recording a song dedicated to him... upon seeing him in that condition, Roger broke down in tears...
Have a Cigar is sung by Roy Harper... it was supposed to be sung by Waters, but then they chose this solution... honestly, I would have had Gilmour sing it all... anyway...

BUT GUYS, HAVE YOU REALIZED THAT SOMEONE ASKED "WHO IS ABBY ROAD"? THESE ANONYMOUS IDIOTS COME HERE TO INSULT THINKING THEY'RE SMART AND THEN THEY EMBARRASS THEMSELVES...

Anyway, the album is, in my opinion, the best of the Pumpkins, in terms of songs, duration, balance, sounds, and Corgan's voice. Everything is balanced. Then, it's known that Billy played all the guitars, the bass, and the keyboards on this album, sang, and relied on the still fairly sober Chamberlin just for the drums. So this album, more than others, is the product of Corgan's wonderful mind.

As usual, people throw everything into the same basket, and unfortunately, some even smoke it often because otherwise, they wouldn't say so much nonsense... There are those who come here to write that they don't like the Smashing Pumpkins, that they suck, that the album is boring... but then what are you doing here? Go read the review of something you like and stop being a pain in the ass, or try to express a sensible and reasoned opinion... anyway, it's always this same old story about grunge... If there are so many little professors who know everything about this genre, how can they say that the Pumpkins are grunge? The Pumpkins have taken a completely different path (thankfully), and their music can be defined as rock, which is the most indefinable and contaminated genre there is. Period. Corgan draws inspiration from the great rock bands of the 70s, and fortunately, we didn't have to see him too much with long greasy hair, a flannel checkered shirt, and patched-up pants... please. If you claim to know music, stop blabbering nonsense...

A political party where fans of one genre or artist wage war against another genre or artist... I find it stupid and at the edge of the concept of a pack, political warfare, or stadium ultras... I hate those who love Cobain "because he's cool," "because he's great," and then if you ask them anything about his music, they only sing Smells Like Teen Spirit, often without even knowing the words well. I think Kurt would have spat in their faces. Think about it. And if you respond with insults, you will have only demonstrated your stupidity.

I fully agree with the review... saying more would only ruin an emotion that needs to be experienced firsthand... anyway, you may like it or not, but you can't deny that it's a great album and it was important in the '90s. Especially to show that there is still imagination, passion, and heart in music. Damn, I love double CDs; I wish there were always some band releasing a great double album like this, rich and varied in which to get lost. Long live abundance and class, long live the non-classifiability of the Pumpkins, long live Billy Corgan and his infinite melancholy and sadness…

I agree with those who say that the Smashing Pumpkins (but we should say Corgan) have intelligently understood (and publicly admitted) that they have reached the end of the line and have brought their adventure to a close. This is something many defunct bands lack the courage to do.
