Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Damn, I'm listening to Afterhours now... and I don't actually dislike them that much. But I don't worship them either. However, thanks to your hatred for them and your love for Area, I went to listen to Demetrio and the rest, and I thank you for that. I too, in your place, would have hated them like you do discovering them in joy and revolution. Embarrassing. If you spare yourself the Afterhours, do yourself a favor and spare yourself the Dream...

i dream often start from four chords, from banal melodies and then they stretch them out by splattering over them speed, time changes, and tons and tons of empty technique. but underneath the song, you can feel it's crap. lately, though, in my opinion, they begin to play all together in a jam, right? which is also a nice idea. they do all their absolute and drumming, thinking of sounds to throw in. then they pull out moments where LaBrie can throw in a couple of words, a couple of screams, and they believe they have a song. but then just continue with the liquid tension experiment, what the hell are you doing with these albums?

Composition: I take the guitar, write a series of chords, and the melody of the voice along with the lyrics. I have my song. I arrange it, meaning I choose which instruments should play and how. No solos here yet, at most riffs. In the end, the solos, which if I’m someone good at it won’t just be filler but will manage to become an integral part of the song. I have my arrangement. Then I take care of the sound, which if I’m straightforward also here will give more shine and impact to the song, and won’t end up representing the best part of the song itself. Everything balanced. The work on the sound is what is called production. Awesome. In short, if the song is beautiful but the arrangement or production is terrible, it can still be saved. If the song is fundamentally bad, I can layer avant-garde sounds and goosebumps solos over it, but the song remains bad. And that’s when the musician has definitely failed. This happens often to the dream.

If the best part of a song is the solo, the song is a failure.

Freddie had a problem with his vocal cords and you can hear it. How can you say it's perfect? I have the record tattooed on my heart. The review is just a list, frankly not much. No offense.
