anonymous review, I would say. But why, I wonder and I ask myself why? Do you enjoy seeing yourselves humiliated or what else? Why, oh whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

But excuse me, you had written that you listened to only two tracks. Now you've listened to the whole album. If you haven't, YOU can't express a judgment. How can you if you haven’t heard the entire album? De Gregori is not Zucchero, where even if you only know the singles, you’re good to go. I don’t know how you guys think, really. Clever and catchy. Whatever. What the hell is clever, I don't know.

The cannon woman is quite a piece, but it's outside De Gregori's norms. He’s said it himself. It’s certainly not one of his favorites. In my opinion, this album is anything but commercial; on the contrary, it’s thrown out there (deliberately, though) with a raw sound that's often rough around the edges, live, because he wanted it that way. If you’re referring to the single, the video, or the radio play, well, for once in a million, let De Gregori have his fun. Then to say the cannon woman, how can you compare it to this stuff... do you even know De Gregori? Do you get it? Do you understand how he thinks and how he sees his music and consequently what comes out of it? It seems to me you don’t. The cannon woman is commercial par excellence, full of rhymes, packed with melody, and romantic. Here we’re talking about murdered people, slaughtered children, a cripple wandering around Paris, Italy being a mess... I don't know, but maybe you should reflect on that. I mean, when I say commercial, I’m not saying I don’t like the cannon woman or that it’s not a great piece. It’s just that this album is more DE GREGORI than the cannon woman. And on this, there’s no arguing. So if you don’t understand this, maybe you should ask yourself what you like and how much De Gregori you really know. No hard feelings, come on, sorry for the harshness of the other posts.

My last intervention is a copy and paste of Robi's comment a few posts above regarding personal matters. Anyway, it was ironic; I do not share what is written. Let's say your post refers to Roby. Anyway, everything is clarified with Roby ;o)

Perhaps there is a bit of contradiction. Besides my favorite groups, it’s normal for me to apply my philosophy to other groups that I don’t know or don’t like, but which I recognize to have a subjective (personal) and objective (the value they hold even without receiving my preference) worth. Clear?

come on, come on, sorry, that's enough. you're too nice to continue. it’s normal that considering a group as a favorite, which I see in a certain way (that you know), leads to a condition of partial incomprehensibility between us, and me with you. because even if we understand each other, we're really light-years apart in ideas. I have some beloved groups, but each of them has a different level of subjective and objective judgment that they can be subjected to by me and others. if I tell you that one of them is Queen, you can even spit in my face and I would understand you. I mean, I’m attached to Queen for sentimental factors, memories, and so on. if I say that another group is R.E.M. and you throw ridiculous criticisms at me, I'll have you for breakfast, because behind R.E.M. there's a whole philosophy and culture of music and communication so complex and interesting that at most someone can say they don’t like it or aren’t interested, nothing more. in short, there are, in my opinion, some groups that due to their uniqueness, value, and quality can be subjected to a certain degree of subjectivity, but they remain important. now, I can say that I like Dream, but I stop there. I'm sorry but according to my vision of music, for the alignment it must have with my emotions and my person, Dream is as far from a favorite group, i.e., considered by me to be the best of all, as it can be. I couldn't sustain such a thing. because I don't have a group that I consider better than the others; I have some beloved groups, each at a different level of objectivity and subjectivity. it’s a bit complex and perhaps a bit confused in expression, but I think you understand. it’s normal that I don’t see you well as a fan of Dream, which is your favorite group. because their best qualities—the ones that in your opinion make them better or preferable to others—are the “qualities” that I often see as mere display, exaggeration, show-off, fancy packaging, etc. it’s normal for the split to be deep, and for there to be a thread of distrust and aversion. because you see, for me, they fall exactly where for you they rise. what could be so opposed? I'm sorry anyway without any offense. it's been a pleasure. goodbye.

"My impression, however, is of a savvy, catchy work that will most likely sell, but how often does quality go hand in hand with marketability?" If you define this album as commercial, then you might as well stop writing egebamyasi. And eneathedevil, if you think that 'la donna cannone' (now that's savvy and commercial) was the swan song, perhaps you haven't listened well enough to the rest. Honestly, guys, I don't know how you can say these things. Really, damn... damn.

I don't understand why the main topic of discussion is whether Dream Theater are original or not. It doesn't seem like such a central issue to debate. The important things, as with any band and any form of music, are in my opinion the emotions that the band in question can convey to you! Dream Theater manage to communicate unique emotions to me, like very few other bands do, completely different from the emotions that other bands transmit to me, which (based on some comments above) seem to be happily copied by Dream Theater (well..)! It's true, maybe there are bands that are more original than Dream Theater, both in prog and other genres; bands like Rush (in the past) and Tool (in the present), but do you want to know the bomb? These 2 bands (no offense) communicate to me a quarter of the emotions and good vibes that Dream Theater do!! And in light of that, I say: what the -beeeep- do I care about originality?
