Oh yes dear gabbox (thanks for the comment) the origin of the word dub should be "double" precisely because, as you wrote about the B-sides of the records, the versions contained on the A-side were re-engraved. I noted the name you mentioned in the comment, I'll look it up. The record, if you can... is worth a listen or even a purchase.
