We didn't understand each other; by "cold" I mean that I don't feel them as "part of their music," they give me the impression of just going through the motions. You also have to put yourself in my shoes; I don't make objective evaluations, I'm used to people who include their tonsils in the booklet, so DT doesn't excite me, definitely due to my personal concept of "aesthetics" and not because of the band’s shortcomings. I'm not talking about "cold" music; that would simply be a stylistic consideration, and moreover, hats off to Slint, Codeine, Low. As for Talk Talk and Bark Psychosis, while the former is almost free jazz and uses classical instrumentation, the latter draws heavily from shoegaze and psych. But more importantly, while Talk Talk is almost celestial, Bark Psychosis is a waking nightmare; their intents are, in my opinion, completely different (in fact, I prefer Talk Talk...). To me, that's a significant difference. Hex is damn original to me; if you can find me a band that has mixed shoegaze and ambient in a psychedelic album of that level...

Cold to me, it’s not that you are forced to think the same way.

Saint God only Scaruffi was missing :D Anyway, I don't claim that a band must necessarily introduce something new to their music to be considered a good band; I don’t know where you saw me say that. The only thing I’m saying is that it’s a necessary condition to talk about a masterpiece, that’s all. That then it may be necessary in certain reviews to bow down and worship certain people a priori is pretty obvious from the attitude of some folks, who behave as if I had raped a minor family member. Anyway, Talk Talk -> Bark Psychosis -> Labradford, you’re really stretching it there, huh? :D

Just for the record, this EP is completely included in the album, indeed, by Warsaw, which is quite easy to find (under 10 euros).

Incredible, I didn't make a single reference throughout the comment, I only mentioned a band contemporary to the DT. And for this, I got called a know-it-all. What else can be said? I don’t know, everyone has the fans they deserve. Goodbye :)

Then, beyond the various bullshit "you're jealous because they succeeded," which honestly are quite ridiculous, I notice that the discussion (here, but I've noticed it for many other bands as well...) always centers around "how brave they are, they did something different instead of following the trend," which for me makes absolutely no sense and doesn’t add a single point to the matter. That groups make the music they feel like making without thinking about sales (which for me the DT absolutely did not do, you know how many 40-year-olds who used to obsess over Ultravox and now if they don't speak ill of wave + promotion of prog feel culturally inferior I know?), the Bark Psychosis, who came out in those years, released a wonderful album without selling a dime, yet they are great. And I wouldn't bet my life that prog is better represented by the collages of the DT rather than by the ethereal sensitivity of the BP...

Oh my god, with all the DT fans who feel the need to explain to you every 10 minutes why they've seen the light and exactly where some damage has occurred (if you want, I can tell you exactly where :p). For me, apart from Easy's argument, which I completely agree with, I would say that they're an extremely cold band, one that doesn't excite me and probably never will. No rating, better not to piss off a herd of people for nothing.

In fact, a 5 for Placebo already makes me smile, and after 3 weeks of listening it completely cracks me up. But I'll buy it, because you can never go wrong :D

I mean, of SY you have the early EPs and it seems to you they're chasing some vague melody? Sonic Death, Confusion is Sex, that kind of stuff? We have a different ear, what do you want me to say...

Well, it seems to me that you contradict yourself in every post. <<<but how can you listen to such simple stuff? And on with “oh my god, have you heard the germs?” “oh my god, the Buzzcocks!” “oh my god, the minutemen!” “oh my god, the gun club!”.>>> It looks like you’re talking specifically about the Minutemen here, and the Gun Club. I mean, I can’t make heads or tails of what you’re saying; maybe it’s my frontal lobotomy, I don’t know. Sex Pistols and early Clash are punk ‘77, Social Distortion absolutely isn’t; I think they debuted in ’81 but I don’t feel like checking. It seems to me that the argument is actually pretty simple: “some bands suck, others don’t.” It doesn’t take much. And punk '77 is the first punk; it has nothing to do with what you think punk '77 is. Both the Sex Pistols, the early Wire, the Warsaw joy division-inspired stuff, and the Stranglers are punk '77. If it’s not clear yet, punk '77 is defined by the lyrics and the artist’s attitude, not just the music, because the Stranglers share with the Clash only the use of the electric guitar, and that’s it (maybe). The combination makes them different from the Stooges. You also have to consider the usual “natural selection” that happens for every genre in every era; a lot of stuff from ’77 never made it out of the fan circuit, for example the already mentioned X-Ray Specs or the Avengers. If what you’re saying is that you can’t stand bands that follow the punk stereotype, with safety pins stuck in their asses, I sort of agree — as far as I’m concerned, it’s just a way of presenting oneself and forming a group, which I didn’t appreciate back then and don’t appreciate now, but whatever, they invented the word “posers” for this :p
