Mark Lanegan Band Blues Funeral
Voto:
voto suspended, heard only 4 times, a bit early for a judgment. For now, however, the electronic drums I’ve heard make me crap profusely (like all electronic drums in the world, except for rare exceptions). Unfortunately, I spent the last two years recovering the old Lanegan solo work, and I realized that until I'll Take Care Of You I like everything a lot, after that I like very little, so I also doubt this will drive me crazy. We'll see anyway.
Julian Cope Japrocksampler

Since it was released in Italy, I've been on the verge of getting it, but whether it's the medium-high price or the fear that Cope could be another one of those artists affected by "orientalism," which would end up disappointing me, I've always left it on the shelf. I've skimmed through it at Feltrinelli over the years, and it didn't seem as terrible as I imagined (I mean regarding the historical context; I can't say anything about the groups, as I don't know 3/4 of them).

Look, I was connected to the Pumpkins, but I’ve always found Corgan’s character a bit annoying (obviously without him there would be no SP, that’s for sure). This is the last 5-star album from the SP for me, after this, my interest dwindles. And "Blew Away" is really a minor piece, when Iha was still given space to act (not coincidentally, "Mayonaise" and "Soma" on Siamese are the result of Iha and Corgan together).

I downloaded it at the time of its release, when Holy Mountain had Wooden Shjips, La Otracina, and other great bands. Great review Matteo, I need to get the album back from the external hard drive.

Musically, I digest them poorly, but their history is the mirror of that Japanese period, as fervent on a social/cultural level as it has been largely unknown in the West until recently (in Japan, there is a tendency to avoid discussing that period, the JRA, in accordance with the well-rooted concept of "laundering dirty laundry at home"). Ghezzi had broadcast a Halloween evening of films related to the Red Army that were quite interesting. For instance, few know that the great master Miyazaki is one of the few who still declare themselves communists in Japan; if I’m not mistaken, he doesn’t hide the fact that he went to throw Molotov cocktails at Eisenhower when he came to Japan in the late '50s.

In Inariditu I prefer the master Ennio Annio. Ah what a sport boxing is!

In my period of rejecting the stoner scene (around '99 or so), I bought and quickly resold this record. I somewhat regret it, both because it was always a Man's Ruin record and now it's a rarity, and because I condemned it as derivative, whereas now I might actually enjoy revisiting the first two tracks that I liked a lot. I heard the other albums in bits and pieces, but I remember this one as the most unique. And Fu Manchu with Ruben Romano were better than with Bjork, it pains me to say.

Damn, you beat me to it, I was about to send it too (I had written it like 20 days ago). In my opinion, it's an album with an average short duration in your stereo, but for the time it lasts, it's a blast. Of course, I prefer the initial triplet of BKs (especially since I can’t stomach much Danger Mouse at the console), but honestly, I wish there were more "established" bands that put out albums like this.

I knew these by name; I’ll have to remedy the lack, although I’m not very fond of female voices in Japanese rock (unless they’re like the OOIOO).
Damo Suzuki The Fire Of Heaven At The End Of Universe (Live At UFO Club)
Voto:
Wow, I was just listening to the newly acquired reissue of Tago Mago. Two little anecdotes: 1) I met Damo 5 years ago when he played in the Marche with his Network (a friend of mine was on guitar along with Xabier Iriondo), and the very tall, Teutonic woman next to him is his wife. To call him shy is an understatement. 2) I went to the UFO Club in Tokyo to see a pathetic concert by Mick Farren Ex Deviants, the place is truly microscopic, but they had some great psychedelic concerts.
