Lana Del Rey Born To Die
Voto:
I'm not going to throw gasoline on the '80s controversy. I think that where he was referring, like the good Hetzer above, to the mainstream sounds of the '80s, not to SST, the garage revival, EBM, post-punk, and blah blah blah, which may or may not be liked, but have artistic dignity. The point that Hetzer writes about is unfortunately something that shouldn’t be resurrected from the '80s. We have quickly transitioned from the revival of beautiful things to the revival of the plastic pop trash in the name of degustibus and musical camaraderie. Lana Del Rey, never heard of her, I have so little time and there's so much interesting stuff out there (old and new) that I don’t understand why everyone spends time on these artificial things like when there was only MTV and record stores, as Geeno wrote. I mean, the biggest achievement of downloading is precisely to break free from these dynamics, and we’re all stuck listening to the latest freak show phenomenon. Damn, the Devo were right back then.

A few years ago, I wanted to review the album with the cowboy on the cover, but I lost the desire. The first things I heard were slightly black metal-ish, as the esteemed sfascia said, then the subsequent albums moved almost excessively between genres that were very distant. Let's just say they require a commitment that I can't dedicate to them right now.

Damn, I've always snubbed this one compared to the first two that I have (I prefer + All of Us if I have to say my piece), I’ll have to redeem myself.

Hi zaireeka, I'm sorry but you didn't fool me with the review... because I still prefer (by far) Tame Impala! This second album is better than the first, so I need to take my time to assimilate it, but the problem, in my opinion, is the tendency to cram too many things into the same track. Speaking of Flaming Lips, you should check out My Best Fiend's Ghostlike Fading (released on Warp, if I recall correctly). It's some psych relax stuff, a lot of ballads, but the singer is an interesting mix of Wayne Coyne and Perry Farrell. I still don't know if I like it, but the album has its charm.
Thee Cormans Biker Bitch
Voto:
Holy shit, but the one on the cover is none other than the legendary Terry The Tramp, a mythological figure of the Hells Angels of Oakland. I'm definitely downloading these cormans that everyone is recommending to me.

Beautiful, this little disc, discovered a couple of years ago, and that I often use to go to bed (the opening track Walkin In The Park is a perfect pre-sleep soundtrack). Now I’m going to read the review, but hats off just for the choice.
Sun Araw Heavy Deeds

I don’t know, I can’t figure out if I like Sun Araw or not. Some records like Beach Head didn’t bother me, and On Patrol was okay too. For instance, the latest Ancient Romans is sometimes ecstatic, sometimes it has horrible plastic sounds, especially from the synths. Not Not Fun is definitely very selective in its choices, but very little really appeals to me, and in my opinion, very little will be remembered in the near future. As for small labels that have their own consistency, Hozac for garage isn't bad either, along with Mexican Summer, and Sacred Bones (this one might be getting a bit big, but it has released some great records in the last 12 months).
The Brian Jonestown Massacre Methodrone

Beautiful, like for Silas, my favorite by Newcombe and company to date. However, I often find them excessively praised, because aside from this and the latest deviations of the two albums, the BJM have mostly done the same piece. For heaven's sake, often in fairly dispensable albums they manage to sneak in a gem like this Spun: but damn, there will be 6/7 interchangeable albums. Look, you've made me want to revisit the review of the double CD that came out last year with the collection of singles, where there are also the tracks from before BJM when they were called (not surprisingly) ACID...
Cristina D'Avena Fivelandia 4
Voto:
Are you crazy????? Cristina D'Avena has ruined the noble art of Italian cartoon themes from the late '70s and early '80s!!!! Damn mustachioed woman! Moreover, the cartoons with her themes are all inferior to those with serious themes, like the robot anime (Gundam, Jeeg, Goldrake, Mazinga, etc.) or the nonsensical delirium like Arale, Lamù, Carletto Il Principe dei Mostri. Thank goodness that MediaSet already didn’t understand a thing about cartoons.
