Honestly, I hate nationalism, and the only good thing about Italy is the lack of widespread nationalism. Then there's the discussion about that specific commemoration in Japan, which has now become a source of diplomatic disputes with China (some of these so-called national heroes were those nice guys who massacred thousands of Chinese in Nanjing...)

It's a shame that on December 14th they also honor the many war criminals buried at the Yasukuni Shrine. They were nationalists and remain nationalists. I went to a matsuri at the shrine where they are buried when I was in Tokyo.

Very nice road to L. Intriguing the theory of Lovecraft's journey in Italy, but it seems it is not true.

I think I'll have to see it, but I'm almost sure it will ruin what was good in the first one. Among the impactful films of the '90s, I would include a Grande Lebowski, superior even to Trainspotting pour moi.

Sorry, I haven't read the review but I will do so later. But is it based on the novel of the same name by Abe Kobo?

The first one was a nice record, then I lost track of them. But if they’ve stayed on course, they’re good.

Ah, wait a moment, is that the one from the Garden of Words???? I mean, it had been recommended to me, and after years of not watching it, also because unfortunately, and I admit it might sound very snobbish, what used to be my living room has suddenly turned into a bar counter, I downloaded it and watched it. What can I say, I had read a lot of positive reviews, but honestly, I admit that the new wave of critics on anime & co. is on a completely different planet from mine. I found it shockingly banal, and above all, fake, really fake in what was supposed to be its strong point: human relationships. I mean, it very much reflects the social drift of Japan and the world; in this regard, it is perfect, but it’s an emotional black hole. If he is the director, and the theme treated is similar, then let it be far from me all my life!

I am now completely out of the anime context, even though I wrote theses on it and lived in Japan, but the few Shinkai films I’ve seen didn't thrill me. The last director I liked, and who I found out a year ago had died young, was Satoshi Kon.
