Saw them live on Friday, too bad there were only about ten of us because of the crappy weather and the seaside venue being a poor choice considering the storm that was brewing. What can I say, even better than the record, great drummer, nice Gioele whom I discovered has been a journalist for Rockerilla for years.

I was about to download it, drawn in by the cover. But I think I'll pass. For two weeks I've only been hearing that asshole Car Seat Headrest, je possino!

Never understood all this hype. For me, Toriyama is and will always be Arale. I don’t know, the few things I saw didn’t make me laugh and weren’t violent; it was all half-hearted. In short, it was like the first time they aired Saint Seiya; it seemed to us like a Ken the Warrior without the gore (then in the end, we had other reasons to watch it, like the levels dynamics in a video game style and stuff like that). So can you explain to me why Dragon Ball was so popular?

I've had it on my HD for ages, but I can't bring myself to watch it. Also because I studied the period of the attempt to evangelize Japan post-Francisco Xavier for an exam at university. The tortures that forced Catholics to walk barefoot on glowing bronze images of Christ or some apostle were very interesting. The presumption behind the concept of evangelization has always driven me crazy (it's obvious that the real motives were economic in nature, but many among the missionaries truly believed in it).

You got to me first; even though I dislike the subject (and thus avoided like the plague their albums hyped by Pitchfork and its affiliates), I said to myself, "why not give it a listen while trying to think of a singer with a different face," and I downloaded this. What can I say, I'd be cautious with the comparisons, but I think it's a generational thing. For now, he doesn't even come close to the mentioned ones, but the kid has a hot pen and handles the material very well. I must say I really like his voice—a bit of a Malkmus vibe but with a raspy tone. Every now and then, he reminded me, in terms of expressive urgency, of Mangum and Neutral Milk Hotel. I also like the idea of reinterpreting the album. Full marks.

Well, I kinda liked the first one, I’ve heard this one a couple of times, just driving on the highway last week, but it left me feeling lukewarm. Let’s see if I’ll have the patience or if I’ll delete it like I’ve been doing for a while now (yeah, if it’s a genre I’m into and it doesn’t click by the third listen, it means I don’t need it, and delete it right away).

You deserve applause just for bringing back to my mind Mai Dire Banzai, perhaps the main reason I went to study Eastern Languages in Venice and spent a lovely period living in Japan.

Thrill Jockey always in the heart but in recent years the releases are less striking than they used to be (for me, obviously). I had the previous one, I'm trying to catch up with this one and then I'll let you know.

This might appeal to me. But I don't understand why I'm falling behind on Trouble In Mind releases; I follow them on FB but haven’t had any updates on albums for years. The same goes for Thrill Jockey and the myriad of labels that usually publish things I like. For a while, TIM was putting out great stuff.
