One of the characters in Italian music that annoys me the most is reviewing one of my favorite bands. It's a nightmare, basically...

I misread the review (sorry, Bogus Man 2 - yes, because there was an old user with your nickname in here) but I see the Strokes as little related to post-punk. What happened in the early 00s in NY was simply the rebirth of the NY sound from the early 70s; it was Interpol that was out of focus compared to the scene. They, due to obvious sounds/styles, were the only ones looking at post-punk England. Anyway, coming to Squid, not a half disappointment, but honestly after Town Centre, which I reviewed a couple of years ago, I expected better. I mean, they say the same (and maybe more and better) in that EP with a third of the songs and run time. Likely an album they spent too much time on before releasing. They’re good, they’re good and I’d see them live, but they’ve somewhat oversimplified the various influences, reducing everything to DFA sound and therefore !!! and LCD Soundsystem and thus Talking Heads Talking Heads Talking Heads (plus a bit of Can thrown in). I would have preferred more songs with horns, more strange changes like on "Match Bet," and even quieter things in the style of "Documentary Filmmaker." Oh, then for running and generally for an "easy" listen, it’s my album of the moment, but I was hoping for something more. If we want to play the Beatles vs Stones game, for now, Black Country New Road is much better (and by the way, they’re coming to play near me on July 16, and I might even put on some records after).

Eunamadonna, what comments! I haven't seen a review with so many comments since the various human cases from Debasio, like Francis or similar. Which is obviously a good thing. A friend of mine accompanied him on tour with the previous album, I think, he played keyboards and organ, he spoke very highly of him (but he also likes that three-legged dog War On Drugs, so we don't often agree on musical choices). However, I've always been a snobbish foreign enthusiast, so I never felt inclined to listen to someone with such a name (at this point, given the references, I’ll have to do it, but without telling anyone).

After almost 15 years, I found it yesterday used on CD at Repertoire, stuff for us seasoned listeners. For less than 10€. Joy and jubilation!

Thanks to the release of this album, I’ve been revisiting the discography of GY!BE. So, I can confirm the almost "positive" aura that pervades this latest album. Or rather, it is marked by a less apocalyptic atmosphere than many of their other records. The difference between GY!BE up to 2003 and the ones that emerged from their comeback ten years later lies in the structure of the suite-like compositions that have always characterized them. The two long tracks on this latest album, for example, have a linear structure; they speed up and slow down, but maintain a mood and, at times, even a melodic line. In their earlier albums, this never happened; each monstrous track contained different moods, creating a continuous emotional and conceptual roller coaster. Is it better before or better now? For sure, they are now easier to listen to and approach, but perhaps less profound in the long run.

Cult film, of which I don't remember a darn thing. But I do remember it was one of the first movies I downloaded in the early days of video downloading.

Well, it's still based on a comic by Garth Ennis, and in fact, it's quite politically incorrect to be a transposition for a mass medium. The comic goes all out (even though after The Preacher, good old Ennis starts to repeat himself, but that remains a masterpiece) the series obviously can't do the same. However, I watched it during this year of pandemic hell, and I must say it's enjoyable. It has its flaws, but it also features very well-defined characters.

Excuse me, but can anyone recommend me other solo albums by the good Moore? All good? All bad? All fruity? I sent this review after months because I listened to it again, thanks to a vinyl purchase at great prices, and I must say that even after months it still holds up.

I wanted to binge-watch it all (both seasons) over the last two months, and it incredibly gets better. It has this almost western structure that I like. It's pure fan service, packed with references and callbacks to the saga, but it's done really well. The only one I would recommend, aside from the original trilogy and Rogue One.
