first: it’s not swan but zwan. second: billy has always been a fan of slint and tortoise, and in the early 90s (I think in '93) the two (billy and pajo) met and made a mutual promise to start a band together someday... thus, they became friends. it had been a while since billy wanted to reach out to pajo to form this group, the same goes for sweeney, so they ended up almost "naturally" at the end of the smashing pumpkins saga. zwan were phenomenal in their premises, blending folk, country, prog, and indie from late 2001 to 2003. when the album came out, they took an unexpected commercial turn, but from a live perspective, they always delivered at a very high level, considering the great musicians involved. The only thing that didn't work was the individual personalities (which didn't exist in smashing since there was only billy doing everything) clashing with billy's superego, who at some point decided to treat the experience as a game, a temporary fun, thus determining the "commercial" sound and image of the album alongside the producer, bjorn thusrud or whatever the hell his name is. then there were sordid stories of drugs, sex (everyone passed around paz) and amenities of that kind, leading to fights all around, and no one wanted to work on the project anymore. zwan disbanded on September 15, 2003 by the decision of everyone except billy, who learned about the news almost by accident through a sneaky fax... but in reality, the major conflicts had started that June, which led to the cancellation of the entire European tour (does anyone remember they were expected to open for maiden in imola? - then plasibo went instead...). thus ended the era of the swan, brief but intense, especially for the fantastic bootlegs that circulate, for the hideout recordings worthy of a bonnie prince, and for the low-fi indie soundtrack of the film spun.

It came out last month, I think, the other duplicate is mine and it's from August, I believe. Nice review!

They are geniuses, and the cover of "Comfortably Numb" is fantastic, just like all their references: Bee Gees, Sylvester, Bowie...
Scott Walker The Drift

punisher! I thought you'd make this boring and pretentious stuff better! Of course, it doesn't compare to the first four fantastic albums by Scott Walker... between this and Tilt, I don't know which one is more mediocre...

Damn, what a memory! The story reminds me of those crazy tales from Grandpa Simpson, just a bit more coherent. Well done! I was also crazy about this hit.
