Lucio Battisti Il Mio Canto Libero
Voto:
An extraordinary album, splendid, in my opinion the best by Battisti. I agree with almost everything in the review, except for the judgment on "il mio canto libero," which I do not consider the best song by Battisti at all; on the contrary... but here it's a matter of tastes. Battisti was a genius. Period. Everyone remembers him for the beautiful words (by Mogol) and for what he represented as a singer; but very few, very few, are aware of what an extraordinary musician he was. The arrangements of his songs are simply fantastic: strings, winds, orchestras, choirs, dynamics, solos, syncopations… there’s everything, an exceptional musician, a genius. Many young people seek (justifiably) within rock bands and similar genres the great arrangements to understand high-level music. If they listened more to people like Battisti and focused on the music of these splendid songs, they might learn more. In fact, they definitely would.

Great band, for sure, they made exceptional songs and are rightfully part of music history. The review is very nice. However, allow me to say that they are NOT GREAT MUSICIANS: with the exception of Gilmour -excellent guitarist- and Waters -poor bassist but definitely a GENIUS composer-... well, Wright is what he is and Mason is one of the worst drummers (both technically and otherwise) in rock history. Great, very great, I agree... but not great musicians.

Innuendo would be an obscene album?! Huh?! Hello? But who do you listen to, Fausto Papetti?

Freddie was certainly not Mozart on the piano, but he wasn't just a rookie like many make him out to be either. As a composer, he created extraordinary things, including Barcelona. This is evident also because a soprano of the caliber of Caballé would never have dared to ask any fool to write a song about her beloved Barcelona and then sing it with him; I would love to ask those who dismiss Freddie's musical talent if they have ever written a song, if they know what a syncopation or a semiquaver is, if they understand the difference between a 4/4 and a 6/8, or if they have simply ever picked up an instrument.
As a singer... well, obviously his voice is unmatched, too beautiful and unique. But you need to have some understanding of music. Have you ever wondered why no one ever dares to make TRUE and FAITHFUL covers of Queen songs or, in general, the songs that Freddie sings? I wonder why!

The review is trivial and quite unfair. The album is beautiful, the only one that truly offers black pearls after the babyish eighties. However, some comments really irritate me: Queen may or may not be to your taste, that’s understandable. But how can anyone claim they weren't one of the best live bands? Certainly not the only exceptional one, but how many, really, like them? Have you ever listened to a live performance by Queen? Probably not.

The review is a simple list, discreet but trivial. I disagree with most users, in the sense that technically I believe this is the concert in which the four Queens expressed themselves best, by their own admission. I think they reached the peak of their musical maturity and live performance here. The South American concert of the same tour, for example, is excellent, but far inferior to this one. Did Freddie have a problem with his vocal cords?... I don't know... if he did, it wasn't really noticeable, otherwise how to explain his extraordinary "solo" with the audience after a kind of magic and before under pressure?

Stairway to Heaven is simply the most beautiful song in the history of rock. Period.
Queen A Night At The Opera

Great review, really, although personally I would have focused more on Love of my Life and its genesis contained in the end of The Prophet's Song: Brian May's final harmonic triple is simply orgasmic, not to mention the hints of Japanese koto, the depth of the harp that opens up almost fairy-tale-like scenarios, the piano and Freddie's voice, the "high" notes surrounded by Deacon's bass, Brian's sweet yet forceful entry with the electric guitar as Taylor bursts in with a perfectly placed kick drum and crash; not to mention the simply breathtaking harmonies. Love of my Life is a beautiful song; A Night at the Opera is an unparalleled album.
