Lucio Fulci Zombi 3
Voto:
This film looks promising.... however, I don't know if it can surpass what, for me, is the pinnacle of trash and unintentional comedy, which is "Virus - L'Inferno dei Morti Viventi" by the incomparable Bruno Mattei (aka Vincent Dawn). By the way, the plot is similar, involving a virus that spreads due to an accident in a chemical plant in New Guinea (!) that turns those who come in contact with it into zombies. Watch it because it’s worth it: performances like a school play, delirious dialogues, costumes from a flea market (the "special team" practically wears Magneti Marelli mechanic suits), homemade special effects, and assorted absurdities like people only realizing there are zombies in a room when they enter the camera's field of view, recycled nature documentary footage to give a semblance of a tropical jungle to the Catalan woods, and the protagonist stripping down and running through the jungle to "be more like the cannibals" and avoid their attack. MASTERPIECE!
Matteo Renzi Fuori!
Voto:
Renzi may have good intentions, but when (and if) he sits in a very important chair, he will understand that to be a politician, before "doing" one must earn the support not only of the voters (which is the least) but also of the majority of his party (fundamental) and the various lobbyists that fund him (even more important). This is to say that it is easy to talk about renewals and breaks at conferences, but then to obtain and maintain an important political role, as usual, one will have to kiss the ass of the party leader or the entrepreneur financing the electoral campaign; otherwise, you won't get anywhere. Anyway, I don't dislike him; perhaps it's because he is almost my age and I find him less distant.
Einstürzende Neubauten Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T.

Finally, with a significant delay (I should have listened to it at least ten years ago), I've gotten hold of these "drawings of the patient Oswald Tschirtner" in the excellent reprint by Potomak. What can I say? I was expecting a more tectonic and physical record, but instead, I found myself facing tracks that, despite their chaos, prefer to create claustrophobic and sickly atmospheres, with a hint of a witches' sabbath (the witchy element doesn't match the concept entirely, but at times it makes me think of this too) rather than an earthquake. More minimal than expected, even though there are still majestic explosions of violent madness (after all, the protagonist is schizophrenic). The recording is surprisingly excellent for its time; in fact, it seems that Stevo from Some Bizarre invested a fortune (some say 40,000 – a considerable amount for 1983). As far as I'm concerned, the best EN I've listened to so far.
Carlo Lorenzini Le Avventure di Pinocchio: storia di un burattino
Voto:
Not everyone knows that... in what was supposed to be the last episode, Pinocchio was hanged from a tree by the cat and the fox (for the series "here's what happens to children who don't behave well") and that was the end of it. Then the dozens of protest emails from young readers forced Collodi to bring him back to life and extend the story for more episodes until the happy ending that we all know.
VNV Nation Automatic

I think I saw them live about ten years ago at a festival; I’m not sure if they have improved since then, but back then their performance was really lackluster.
Dino Buzzati Il deserto dei Tartari
Voto:
I've often heard about it, but I've never read it; however, I know Buzzati's "Un Amore," which I really liked.
The Monks Black Monk Time
Voto:
Great, one of the best albums of the '60s and, in my opinion, definitely superior to the releases mentioned in the introduction of the review.

I, Thirwell, just can't bring myself to like it; plastic sounds, haphazardly piled arrangements, raw mixes of the most disparate genres... this "Thaw" showcases a meanness and a harshness so ostentatious that it almost seems caricaturish, cartoonish. It doesn't speak to me at all. If anyone wants the CD, just contact me, I have it in near-new condition and I'm happy to sell it for cheap.
Soviet propaganda Otctonm Mockby!
Voto:
The recourse to nationalist propaganda by the Soviets (who until that point had suppressed all forms of patriotism) was a necessary choice, realizing that people were more interested in saving their homeland than in a party or an ideology. In the end, the resilience of the Russians, who found themselves on the brink of disaster, prevailed despite the greatest loss of life of the entire conflict. Beyond the courage and valor of the Russians, the salvation of Moscow and Leningrad was made possible for two reasons: Japan's decision to attack the U.S. instead of the U.S.S.R. from the east, and the thousands of weapons (aircraft, tanks, etc.) sent by the U.S. to Stalin (it seems that in this regard, the Soviets understated human losses to avoid discouraging those fighting and overestimated material losses to receive more aid from the Allies). I haven't seen the film, but it seems interesting.
