Sergio Cammariere Sul Sentiero

Rereading the note about the booklet seems out of place, I admit... as for the rest, I think you are expressing your opinion on an album that, at best, you've listened to a few mp3s from your computer... I’ll take your denial into account... regards.

I don’t know, I like Cammariere primarily because I think he has great talent; he composes wonderful melodies and accompanies them skillfully, thanks also to the array of musicians who support him. You called him bland... I’m not sure what your standards are. In my opinion, as far as a CD of songs goes, it’s on another level compared to what we normally hear around. You also mentioned a piece called "Tempo," which doesn’t exist; at least it’s called "tempo perduto," and it’s a masterpiece. You talk about a CD packaged like a gift wrap, but the booklet seems rather understated compared to more lavish productions. In short: it seems to me that Cammariere is getting on your nerves a little bit. A legitimate opinion, of course.

It is obvious that I completely disagree with Primiballi... I just want to respond to what doesn't seem to me to be reducible to mere personal taste: the pianobar-style stamp of using the piano. If I had said that Cammariere is as good as Jarrett, I would have made a gross mistake, but one of a magnitude several orders of magnitude lower than your statement, which I hope is due only to your (legitimate) ignorance about the use of the instrument.

Criticism generally relies on parallels and associations with artists, movements, schools, etc. The aim is to identify and explain to those unfamiliar with them the style and artistic vocation of a particular author. Cammariere, as an excellent pianist, has an attitude and an approach to the instrument and phrasing reminiscent of Jarrett. But that doesn't mean the outcome measures up to Jarrett; it just brings him to mind... well, I tried... then anyone can understand what they want...

There is an inaccuracy: the piece "Lo Zio d'America" is actually called "Dalla Parte del Giusto".

Cammariere has a pianistic touch akin to Jarrett, but he is not Jarrett, of course. I wouldn't consider this album bland either, especially since it has a very refined and polished production.

No, no, if I remember correctly, I heard it in a record store where the listening stations are definitely better than those at Ricordi... anyway, as soon as this New Order phase passes, I'll move on to Sigur Ros...

I absolutely have to buy this record; I listened to it just once at Ricordi, and I have to say it pleasantly surprised me... I don’t understand, though, the fervor of those who accuse this band of giving in to melody and therefore selling out. I remain of the opinion that anyone who makes music ultimately has to deal with melody, that is, with the ability to write music that is universally listenable; the important thing is not to fall into banality. So I ask those who know Sigur Ros better than I do: have they banalized their compositions, or have they simply given in to the temptation of melody?

the recession is original, the album is beautiful but lacks integrity...the comparison with the subsequent ones and, if you will, with Meddle and AHM, is heresy
