Disc that has grown immensely over distance. Truly an essay on Albarn's songwriting. The reviewer perhaps didn't quite understand it back then or, maybe, didn't listen to it enough.

I've never seen the movie, nor read the book, but being from the South, I'm sensitive to the topic, which I’ve explored through several readings. The Southern question is a complex issue. My understanding is that unfortunately this country was founded poorly, primarily because the momentum came from an unhealthy alliance between the Kingdom of Sardinia and England. It would have been better if it had started from the Kingdom of Naples with the support of those who were there. At the very least, we would have had a more cohesive and balanced country.

I’m listening to it these days. Well, like many things by Albarn, it grows with repeated listens. Notable tracks include Aries and Désolé, but the whole non-deluxe album travels at high levels.

Moby Play: The B Sides

Reading something truly beautiful is good for the soul. That said, I have a love/hate relationship with Play, a miraculous album but with an irritating charm. However, my stance has always been not to denigrate a product just because it's commercial, and Play remains an album for which 99% of the artists out there would sell their souls. I will give Play B-sides a chance, since we're in 2022.

You can feel the passion and the inner turmoil, even if we are just talking about records. Perhaps a bit confused and inconclusive, but enjoyable to read. I bought the album and loved it, partly because it vaguely reminds me, even in the artwork, of Battisti's white albums.
