Yes, it’s true, Gabriele and Hackett are missing, but the Genesis are still the Genesis, so I can't help but define this album an authentic MASTERPIECE!! -- "Duke": Rating 5. It’s official now: the GENESIS ARE BETTER THAN SEX!! -- "Abacab": Rating 5. Banks, the unrecognized brother of JESUS CHRIST, invents another gem that feels miraculous and draws upon himself all the praises usually associated with the more famous Father. -- "Invisible Touch": Rating 5. How could it be otherwise? Even those who managed not to be moved until "Abacab" will find it hard to resist this ultimate masterpiece! -- "We Can't Dance": Rating 5. It’s a masterpiece, and that’s for sure. Even if while listening you feel the urge to mutter a sermon in store asking the Father of Jesus' keyboardist brother to take him out, you still can’t deny it’s a masterpiece: dang it, Phil Collins didn’t just make silly songs!! -- "Calling All Stations": Rating 5. The seemingly never-ending, swallowable tale of two worn-down red balls seems to be coming to an end, but fear not, there will still be a few more masterpieces from Genesis. If you have the hidden sermon ready, you can start the one in Croatian. Anyway, it’s a masterpiece of an album or, if I want to play the intellectual who chews and spits out a bit of English, I would call it "an invisible masterpiece."

"I find the sounds to be more melodic but definitely not less technical." What does that even mean? It's like saying "I find some green but surely less mathematical"... Come on! Getting back to a deeper understanding of the album, I can only align myself with the "chronological" observation of the fifteen years of experience that separate Surfing (but why compare it specifically to Surfing? Just because you reviewed it? Who cares... there were more significant comparisons, you could have paralleled Joe’s stylistic evolution with that of his former student Steve Vai, for example) from this album, but I don’t understand what an "impressive completeness" is. Perhaps you meant that the architecture of the songs and their construction leave no structural gaps in composition (and inspiration)? Did you want to assure us that the development of harmony in Joe’s songs is always of the highest level? I don't know? Or maybe your intent was more to declare that the listening experience leaves one completely satisfied? Enlighten me... Ah, I get it: you meant to say that the songs are SOLID, right?

I deduce that for you Trick is worth The Lamb or Foxtrot or Nursery or Selling... it’s exactly this thing that I really can’t agree with and that sounds abominable to me. Sorry, it’s not out of malice, it's just that I really can’t feel the same excitement for Trick as I do for the previous ones (first album excluded).

You see, dear Grass-Dennis-Hopper, my point of view (and whether this point of view is more or less shared by others doesn’t matter a damn to me, since by definition it is MY point of view) is that within the discography of every artist (or band) there must inevitably ALWAYS be a choice, however painful it may be. I too have little tolerance for insinuations that within Bowie’s vast discography there might be an album not up to par with his creativity and expressive capacity but... I am forced, out of necessity, to accept it! That is: I couldn’t care less if you don’t like Station to Station; for me it’s a masterpiece and I enjoy it like a fervent ermine every time I listen to it. But if I confidently assert that Ziggy or The Man Who Sold or Heroes or Low or Lodger are ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECES, then I must, to support my thesis, yield to a definition of Station To Station as a decent work but not a masterpiece comparable to the aforementioned. The reason is easily understood, right? Because if I didn’t yield, my claim about the value of Ziggy & Co. would lose logic and strength. Therefore, from your review, there are only two possibilities: either Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme are worth as much as A Trick (and it follows that they are all masterpieces or they are not all masterpieces...) or you have forced the rating on Trick. I lean towards the latter. That is, if you consider it a great album... if it holds up for you like The Lamb...

Jon Spencer will smash your face! I mean, Gion (Ion? Szgion?) Spencen will asphalt your brain, poke holes in it, fill your little pits with piss, and leave you dazed, savoring the bitter taste of decaying liver, a taste I regularly experience on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He’s one of my heroes.
