who knows what emotions, back in those years, when albums of this kind appeared in the charts, or those by Gabriel, or other new wave or pop-but-with-this-class gems (Depeche Mode included, perhaps starting from the fourth album). Ah, what times. An anecdote about Oleta Adams: it was an enormous stroke of luck for the two of them to have met her in Kansas City in 1986. Her performance sent them into ecstasy. "Exceptional atmosphere." Roland felt that the excessive use of synthesizers and drum machines did not provide the expressive strength he was trying to infuse into his music. Then, Oleta gave them the right input to "manage to create something more musically expressive," without machines. "I have to go back to my roots." That is, she let the heart speak more than technology. The result is what we have before our eyes (and in our ears).

Depeche Mode Exciter

Sure, it's not as powerful as the "magnificent 5," but Exciter means something to me... the last summer of my youth. So many things happened that spring of 2001... despite the sense of impending doom surrounding me, which would come to fulfill its (so far) magnum opus on a random June 11, 2002, for everything that lies behind it, for the evident signs it left, I can't shake it off anymore, enough is enough, I want to go back to the time of Exciter. Even though the '50s and the 6-minute Gore melodrama could have been spared. The high rating is partly symbolism.
