the judas, my god, it's as impossible not to know them as it is for me to hate them... =) anyway, the review is well written, but personally I don't quite agree. I mean, nothing to say about the banality, but by now it’s an intrinsic characteristic of power. The songs are nice in my opinion, and the lyrics appreciable (if they were about swords and dragons it would be really sad, right?). Do you want to hear the strato change? then listen to their latest self-titled album. It's really different. But it totally sucks...

Ok, and what does this have to do with the value of musicians? But can you distinguish between played music and tastes?

Ah, I want to clarify that I don't even consider Labrié a genius, but he is still on another planet...

I doubt it... anyway, I (with the necessary exceptions) don’t expect singers to be excellent, although it’s better if they are. For example, I listen to Megadeth or others like Black Sabbath, etc. The fact is you point fingers at me a bit too much for what I say. Your argument about singers is toooooooo general. I’ve never said that to be part of rock history you have to have monstrous technique, and above all, I’ve NEVER said that you should only listen to historically important music. If you really want to know, I consider both The Cure and Dream Theater not to be historical. But if I like DT, why should I care about their importance in rock history? And anyway, I repeat that your comment on this album is too superficial and tries to justify the insults too generically. If no one were to take inspiration from or even copy sometimes, rock music would have been nonexistent for a good 15 years! I’m not saying you have to like DT, but I’m asking you to be a bit reasonable. And then, going back to R. Smith, I don’t doubt his personality, but I see it much more in the smudged lipstick than in his occasionally cacophonous vocal lines. In short, what I mean is that, in my opinion, making music requires something more, and while technique is never a flaw, that doesn’t mean it should be the only thing. And I think the DT also have great taste (actually, they did, until this album... sigh).

no no easy we’re not on the same page. You talk about particular scales and Arabic-sounding notes of the Cure when in the album you’ve DISSED for free there’s a song like Home? Everything you’ve written is nothing but a fanboy rant for one band and a detractor’s jab at another. None of what you’ve written is objective. And you should know that I’m not unfamiliar with the Cure, because a friend of mine used to force me to listen to them until I liked them. But he never succeeded. And then Robert Smith is not a singer, and I’m not talking about technique here. That’s not singing. And then you have the audacity to ask why we’re talking about the Cure? Are you telling me that if I had trashed the Cure in a review and my nickname was “I love you Petrucci,” you wouldn’t have called me out on everything about DT? Come on... I don’t have to avoid writing anything, it’s you who writes some things completely off the mark. Have you ever listened to “A Change Of Seasons”? I don’t think so...

Steve Vai and Jimi Hendrix? What the hell kind of comparisons are you making? I want to point out that I actually like Vai quite a bit and hardly anything by Hendrix, but that's a matter of taste and different genres. Anyway, it’s like comparing Queen and Pink Floyd, just to name two super famous bands. Great groups, but they have nothing to do with each other. Also, there isn't just one parameter to compare them; first of all, there's technique (like it or not, I'd say it's established that the show-off predominates, right?). And what kind of talk is "He's a jerk, damn him and his fans"? WHO CARES! Are you basing your judgment on music or on looks? Because if you’re judging based on looks, then Black Sabbath shouldn’t have any fans... my vote goes to Steve.

no, no. I tried it but I just didn't like it, it seems to me that they make a nonsensical mess. It's not for me.
