Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

I have a friend who listens to Neapolitan neomelodic music, and he loves a lot of songs by the Dream!!! And not just slow pieces!!! Now tell me he likes them for the technique and let’s talk about the technique of Gigi D'Alessio and his group and Gianni Celeste and his "group?".

In fact, the anonymous person is right; we would need more control... but finding 100 moderators is a bit difficult! How can we monitor all the reviews from all the groups made by all the users?? It would be almost impossible, even though there should be a way to contact the admin to let them decide who to ban and what to delete!

Well, dear grampasso, to say that Pain of Salvation and Dream Theater play the same genre... Alright, you’ll tell me that it's still prog metal, but if you listen closely you can notice that we're talking about VERY different music. Even though Pain of Salvation are better in many ways and are DEFINITELY among the best current bands... But come on, they’re really different...

X Darksoul:
What are an evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess for? What are Transatlantic for? What are OSI for? Liquid Tension Experiment? Or perhaps the special collaborations like LaBrie in The Human Equation by Ayreon (which I consider the most beautiful album that exists and that I've been listening to incessantly for a year...)? You could say that LaBrie's last solo album isn't much, but I don't believe that someone who has listened to all this could say that this stuff is made to sell... Everything they've put out with the side bands is of a quality level equal to that of Dream Theater, if not superior in some aspects! And enough of this bourgeois music; it's not the money and equipment that allow for great songs, otherwise every album by Britney Spears, U2, and Blue would be churning out masterpieces every second! Malmsteen, with the money he has ALWAYS had, has only created masterpieces! No, I'm sorry Darksoul, but good music can be made with the equipment of Dream Theater or with a classical guitar and a pot (for percussion!!!)! So I don't understand your insistence on hating a band because they have god-like equipment! But for heaven's sake, if you play in a band for 15+ years and make money because people like your music, what do you expect, to perform with a small pedalboard? If you're referring to Portnoy, well, I can agree that maybe his gear is a bit over the top, but the fact is that he always adds without taking anything away; I challenge anyone after 15 years... Anyway, no one here is saying that you have to like Dream Theater, but if you feel entitled to judge them, at least talk to us about the bands you like and let's express our opinions too... (Anyway, it's true that there are too many reviews...)

I’m sorry to say it, but I have to quote the message written by the anonymous user above! The (in my opinion) very funny easycure doesn’t understand that it’s not the fact that he doesn’t like Dream that bothers me, but how he tries to throw mud at them at every opportunity and how he only judges the “physical” side of the music, meaning that when he listens to Dream, he only hears copies and banalities without feeling, I don’t know, the love that drives Edward to murder his brother and the woman he loves, or the meaning of the words in The Spirit Carries On! It’s fair to be annoyed with those who try to defend Dream at all costs, saying, “If you don’t like Dream, you’re stupid and ignorant!” or with those who say, “Everything Dream does is gold!” But maybe he’s wrong to judge a band that plays a genre he doesn’t like, or at least it doesn’t seem to me that he has mentioned any real prog metal bands, but rather many groups that often have very little to do with metal, like the Tortoise for example... I used to get a bit annoyed by easy, but now I find him likable!!! What a guy!

Well come on, the problem won’t arise if you say that Octavarium doesn’t appeal to you, but if you say that the dreams are "objectively in the midst of their stylistic decline"! ;)

Listen to it, the absolute opinion can't be given by anyone! I adore it, but many others hate it... Let's say that if you loved the last Dream album because it was "kicking ass," I doubt you'll like this one, but if you appreciate albums like Falling Into Infinity and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, there's a good chance you'll enjoy it!

No Darkbard, listen, whether I am a commercial factor or not is not what this is about. Let me give you a little tip, it might be useful:
Not everything that is commercial (meaning it sells a lot!) is commercial because it is a mass phenomenon due to trends or a name (a fashion, to be clear), but it may happen that if a lot of people buy Dream’s CDs, it’s because they like them!
And you, dear Darkbard, are telling me that I like Dream just because of the name? I understand that you consider yourself more intelligent, cultured, and informed than the people who defend Dream here on Debaser, but you might be mistaken! I have been listening to music for 20 years, so I can assure you that I have listened to a lot of music from all genres! Perhaps the fact that I have a more open mind and don’t have static concepts of “good music” and “bad music” has helped me appreciate Dream’s latest works more! Beautiful SDoIT, Beautiful ToT, Beautiful Octavarium! Whether they sell or not, I couldn’t care less! And maybe you didn’t read my post well (the one that made you angry), but I was saying that this review sucks, just like everyone who supports a band by saying that whatever they do will always be the best! I’m not like cameli11, and I never was! Probably all these fanboys will grow up one day and change their minds! Maybe he buys the latest Dream CD and says it's amazing even if it sucks, but not everyone does! Not me and not many others. To say that Dream is objectively dead, so objectively they no longer make good music is like saying that a woman is objectively beautiful, which is impossible because beauty standards are subjective, unless we refer to the beauty standard given by observing what others think... Help me understand what you mean!

Let's face reality, it's impossible to please everyone! If it were so, we wouldn't have a distinctive feature of our species, war!
