Yeah, they copied from Pink Floyd! XD What a stupid comment, huh! Let me say it! :D

...to say that the definition "prog" is too narrow is a contradiction. I think you have a twisted idea of the genre, being a good "eighties child" ;)

Easycure, come on, nothing against you. It's just that you don't spare insults to those who appreciate Dream Theater... Don't think that they are all wild fanboys, okay? My "meager" musical culture goes beyond Wikipedia; mine was just an example related to the fact that if you write something nonsense, it's corrected almost immediately (I'm talking about the international scene, not that crap that is Italian). The Floyd are unique and hardly labelable, nothing to complain about, in fact, it reinforces my thesis of a true progressive vision of music. Unfortunately, if we want to start a discussion, we first need to clarify what prog rock has been... That seems to be the problem! For me, they fully belong to that genre that from the end of the 60s to the end of the 70s detached rock from its strictly blues roots, expanding it to touch "extremes" like Jazz and classical, in constant search of something new (I’m generalizing as much as possible). For me (and also for sites like Prog-Archives, quite reliable on the subject), they perfectly fit into what is a progressive view of music. I reiterate the concept that if progressive could simply be categorized in a few words, the coexistence of very different bands like Rush, Kansas, and Gentle Giant (and the aforementioned Van Der Graaf Generator, not to mention Area) wouldn’t be explainable. ;)

Bah, prog is anything but a label. After all, there’s quite a difference in sound between Biglietto per l'inferno, King Crimson, and Van Der Graaf Generator, and yet they all fall within the same genre. Pink Floyd are prog.

Prog Rock. It falls within the Progressive genre, just like the Pink Floyd do. Unfortunately, these days few know what that movement truly represented, and they think that prog was just solos and odd time signatures... :|

uh uh uh easycure, in fact the Dream Theater aren't going around smoking and protesting against Vietnam! ;P
You're missing some points: 1) My "If the Cure had done a cover night" was to say that, if they had, I wouldn't have come to bother those who may have appreciated it (And dear Easy, it seems to me that the Cure have indeed done plenty of covers, not just in one night, but over 30 years of career... not to mention when they cover themselves ^^). 2) Your hatred for Dream Theater is equal to the many fans who defend them blindly... Although with you, it’s hard to tell if these poor guys killed your dog :D! 3) If you think Dark Side of The Moon is not a Progressive Album, I think you need to study this movement (Music) a bit more... But many people define Pink Floyd as psychedelic... Too bad that Psychedelia also died after a few albums... But why am I even explaining this to you? Go check Wikipedia, and while you're at it, you might want to change the prog rock label on the album so you can be promptly corrected by others... ;)

I can picture The Cure doing Dark Side of The Moon... With Robert Smith whining about wanting to break up the band for 30 years, with their last anonymous albums (Hey, the '80s are over? Really? SERIOUSLY?)... Nooo... Let's leave the prog to Dream Theater, they do it fucking well, dear Easy... And your criticisms of the members are dismantled by reality... Whatever discussion you have about rock musicians, some member of DT is involved... So... Keep listening to The Cure and stop bothering, okay? XD

I dissociate myself from the latter, let it be clear...

Bah easycure, you really matter little in this discussion (And in general XD). You speak out of bias, judge without listening, and, above all, you're as much a fanatic of the Cure as many others are for the Dream Theater. You know what? Keep covering them and talking trash about the DT... it's your path to do ONLY covers! ;)
Would you complain if the Cure did a cover night of Joy Division and sold it online? Your problem, honestly, your problem! I wouldn't come to bother you. I can't help but think that you're just another pretentious goth who despises everything and everyone just because it seems cooler that way, and, OH MY GOD, I hope you’re not, or I will feel compelled to take you out for my crusade against useless movements and beings. ;)
Dear Lux, if I wanted someone to start downplaying my musical knowledge and bragging about their underground listens, I'd go find the first stoner in some square. I want to have fun too: Listen to A.C.T, and not these crappy indie bands.

Who the hell are these Built to Spill? Anyway, nobody here needs to tell others what to listen to. I reiterate that the review is really bad, both stylistically and in terms of content. I listened to the CD a couple of days ago and it’s really good, no piri piri and turu turu, but a very faithful cover of some Pink Floyd tracks. There’s also a technical solo, but nothing that clashes with the rest. The rest is just chatter and a lot of envy. ;)
