I apologize for interrupting the philosophical digressions, but I want to point out that this record is out in stores for 10 euros.

Ah, and I wanted to add that "lament" has one true flaw, in my opinion, in the mixing: it sounds a bit like "seventeen seconds" by the Cure. I mean, the quality is excellent, but the volume is a bit too low. In the car, I couldn't hear a thing until well past halfway on the volume scale. The exact opposite of "Playing the angel," just to talk about Depeche Mode again (really? :D), which is way too loud. Both choices should still be the result of the artist's precise intent. In the case of DM, I'm almost certain of this; nonetheless, I would still have some issues with the CD sound; I've been told that the SACD 5.1 is much better. I own it, but I don’t have the setup.

I completely agree with you on the very refined engravings, but never redundant. I like sophisticated music that is at the same time essential, like this or like "Violator" by Depeche Mode. Too many special effects eventually become a drag; the value of an album can largely be attributed to something else. I'm progressively realizing this.

Hello. I like the new wave, yes, perhaps in its more electronic variations. However, I'm not yet accustomed to certain experimentation. I've taken note of what you posted in a comment on the Stranglers review. Let's get to this album, "Vienna": I’m really enjoying it. Fantastic arrangements. Among the two instrumentals, I couldn't say which I like more. Then, that break halfway through "Astradyne" is spot on. The fusion of bass, violins, synths, and guitars gives something grand to the piece. A few other times I've enjoyed such a mix of acoustic and electronic. "Private Lives" is splendid. Again, towards the end of the track, a (false) closing piano, a silent pause for a second, a terrifying attack of bass and guitar, plus a synth or a violin treated with electronics—I can't figure it out because I'm not an expert on instruments. The central part, tracks 4 and 5, has great sounds; the singing convinces me a little less, but only in the verse of "Sleepwalk" or the chorus of "Passing Strangers." Then, after a dark "Mr. X," comes the track that I currently consider the best. "Western Promise" has a Foxxian imprint. Currie is fantastic, weaving with the violin, and the sharp synths are spot on. Stunning. A final mention for the closing, with "All Stood Still," which strikes me as slightly schizoid. Very entertaining, but it can be powerful in its sound. I can easily see this album in good alternative venues today. Just imagine what it could have represented back then!

Well, Sylvian, "lament" certainly hasn't been mistreated by ALL critics, at least Ondarock never goes below 7-7.5 for their albums (except for the last one). I mean, it's not exactly gold, everything they write, but I was pleased to hear positive things about it.

Unfortunately for me, I've come across plenty of girls who only think about sex, yes, but they wouldn't admit it (so, dishonest whores) and they were also pretty dim-witted. The right one, alas, is still far from coming.
She better not make me listen to this crap, more Tatangelo, + Gigi D'Alessio, + those crazy things that the Latins come up with every summer, + ... + ... ah, yes, I almost forgot the MTV rappers.

Uhm, I'm listening to "lament". What can I say...dreamy, Celtic just from the cover. Not to mention the atmospheres of the pieces. It feels a bit dark. I find "white china" a bit weak, although I like the bass, and perhaps "heart of the country" drags on a bit too much. The closing track "when the time comes" is very good (best track?) and "a friend I call desire" is very, very new wave (though I find the backing vocals a bit out of place). It's an album to understand and listen to at night, like I'm doing now. I'm expecting a lot from the three previous works. Among Smiths, New Order, crows, and Ocasek and company’s "heartbeat city," I’ll throw in a "system of romance" or a "vienna" (since they already have it in the store). Thanks again for the recommendations, Sylvian1982. Ege, aren’t you reviewing anymore? The things you propose are interesting! :)

That is, Jim is trying to express, in the simplest but most polite way possible, his disapproval of the person you refer to with your nickname. In other words, Vasco has thoroughly bothered him (US). Although I acknowledge him some atmospheric arrangements, which however he does not create but the band behind him does.

in the GREAT ASS category, for sure. But it seems too perfect to me.
