Popol Vuh Letzte Tage - Letzte Nächte
Voto:
Hi Antonio, don’t worry, I read you often and willingly, and I wouldn’t mind seeing some of your new jazz reviews :)

@Alessio: it's not a crucial issue, but it's still interesting to find out where certain things come from for many reasons.

Ah well, I don’t know, certainly it was anything but cheerful. Probably for many it’s not even rock (even though it’s hard to imagine certain things by Black Tape, Swans, and others being the same without Nico). But there’s also Cave (From Her to Eternity from '84 and Firstborn are gothic albums in every sense), there’s Hapless Child by Michael Mantler from '75 (if I’m not mistaken), Amon Duul definitely have a gothic element, and in some things even the Doors (at least The End), and I can think of something else. As for the look, I’m not sure, but it seems less important.

Gothic in '85? And Nico?

Yes, but the very attitude of Hosianna Mantra is similar to that of Hassell's albums or Bach, as it can be with Cannibal Corpse; for me, these are things that are really distant. Anyway, I miss this album.

but Hassell is completely different in spirit, frankly it seems to me a meaningless comparison (I won't even comment on that one about the Goldberg Variations)

Well, for me In den garten definitely has a point of comparison, and that would be Abandoned cities by Harold Budd, which I personally prefer over Popol Vuh. While I consider Hosianna mantra an absolute masterpiece. Anyway, if you tell me which similar albums you know, you'd be doing me a favor.
Wim Wenders Der Himmel über Berlin (Il Cielo Sopra Berlino)
Voto:
Maybe I should revisit it, but I liked it very little (Cave scene and Crime and the City Solution aside).
Gianmaria Testa Extra muros
Voto:
a beautiful album that deserves to be rediscovered, lovely Cavalli di frisia and Extramuros, but the peak is La ca sla culina which is truly a beautiful piece, of rare intensity. However, overall, even though it is very well-crafted, for me it’s a 6.5-7 album, not a masterpiece.
Michael Mann ManHunter - Frammenti di un omicidio
Voto:
I manage by saying that Manhunter is a police procedural more in the thriller vein, while To Live and Die in L.A. is a police procedural more in the noir style. I slightly prefer Manhunter, but tastes differ; they are definitely two of the best in the genre from that decade (even though I find the soundtrack of the second one awful, while in the first, the scene referenced from Psycho would be enough).
