Van der Graaf Generator A Grounding In Numbers

Great work, undoubtedly. The overlays in Hammill's sung parts and a greater guitar presence impart very interesting colors and effects. The versatility in Banton's arrangements and Evans' elastic drumming complete the picture. A successful production for a group that, as some point out, despite forty years of activity - in spite of the long breaks - still manages to play at high levels and display an uncommon creative verve.

I'm truly sorry that you experience the event of the concert as a difficulty, albeit an understandable one. Once upon a time, as you surely know, it was the only way to enjoy an artist's musical creations, as there were no records or other means to make them public. While it's undeniable that the domestic dimension of listening brings with it the advantage of reflection and surrender in an ideal atmosphere, it's also true that often the "live" moment allows for a deeper understanding of the actual depth (from multiple points of view) of an artist's overall stylistic essence. But perhaps you already know this... :-)

The beauty is that despite the many years that have passed, in light of their last two works (focus 8 and "new skin"), Van Leer's band still manages to evoke emotions. And the recent performance of the latter at the recent prog exhibition in Rome last November, with all due respect to Mr. Anderson, unequivocally highlighted, in my opinion, the higher level in terms of flute style of Van Leer. I feel compelled to recommend, in this regard, the four albums dedicated to flute and orchestra that Thijs Van Leer released in the 70s and 80s, titled "introspection" (1,2,3,4), all relatively easy to download online.

With all the hype that surrounded it, I honestly expected something more. However, the character is there; maybe not transcendent or brand new, but in several parts of this debut, it is enjoyable to listen to, and the voice makes itself "heard." P.S.: A warm greeting to Fosca, whom I haven't read in ages :-))
Rory Gallagher Tattoo

I essentially agree with Pinhead's assessment. Gallagher seems to have become a "well kept secret" among white blues rock enthusiasts, at least these days. Extraordinary touch and unique visceral quality. There have really been very few like him in Europe. And, just as Pinhead claims, listening to the stunning "Irish Tour '74" attests to the character's absolute exceptionalism. Among the current ones, I would venture to suggest that only Tolo Marton, a guitarist from Treviso, has managed to express himself at these levels years ago, even though he has often denied it.

Hi Green! I didn't know you were so knowledgeable about falcons! ;-). ....It feels like a century since I last listened to it, but it didn't seem bad to me....like "The Hall of Mountain Grill," which I also...prefer. Great review anyway.

Remarkable critical capacity, indeed. I was also able to personally experience Cristiano live at the Paladozza in Bologna last year, and I have to say that, beyond all expectations, he thrilled me. Like the author of this note, I too come from over 30 years of a truly copious amount of concerts, and never would I have dreamed of attending a concert of an "Italian singer-songwriter" before, but with age...you know :-). Yet I confirm that what vitols4 asserts is, in my opinion, widely corroborated by the facts and by having collected and made the great paternal legacy flourish in an exemplary manner.
