Wolfgang Muthspiel & Brian Blade Friendly Travelers

I’ll quickly add one last thing: When I saw Jaco Pastorius in 1982, it didn’t seem possible that the incredible musician I had seen just two years earlier with the WR was the same one stubbornly trying to make sense of the Fender Jazz bass, with the sole result of bewildering the entire audience at the Palasport. A friend next to me who was seeing him for the first time, knowing him by the fame he enjoyed, said, "And this guy is supposed to be the greatest bassist in the world?"

Rosenwinkel is a very complex guitarist technically. Also from a compositional point of view, what comes out is definitely not easily understandable for everyone. With the due proportions, I suppose the same can be said for Holdsworth. I followed Rosenwinkel up until five or six years ago and even live (when Ben Street, Jeff Ballard, and Mark Turner were there), the show put a lot on the table in a language that was indeed multifaceted, complex, and at times mysterious. "The Enemies Of Energy", "Deep Song", and "The Next Step" were, from my listening perspective, extremely interesting and new for their versatility and originality of phrasing (he is also a good pianist) and the themes tackled were absolutely stimulating and "different." It pains me to hear from Conte about the unpleasant incident he encountered. I understand that it must have been quite embarrassing and discouraging; but it is also true, as you say yourself, Conte, that it could have been an unfavorable moment; after all, it's in the nature of things that this can happen. It has happened to me several times with Metheny, Scofield, Steps Ahead, Stern... and others. All artists I have seen with decent frequency and, thanks to that, it was possible to compare their different moods and moments, not always optimal (or even blatantly inadequate). However, I recognize that it has been a while since I last listened to or saw Kurt (who, by the way, speaks good Italian, as I remember!) and there could have been a decline in his characteristic elements or simply in the quality of his offering. These are things that are not new in jazz. If that's the case, it's a shame.

For several years, the name Muthspiel has periodically resurfaced for me, and I must say that until now, I hadn't found a reason to dedicate myself to it appropriately. This I will do at the first good opportunity. "With a name like his, the Austrian Wolfgang Muthspiel has very little hope of being adequately noticed and promoted by the English-speaking international critics, to rise to the global Olympus of jazz guitar." I bring up your amusing initial consideration, thinking for just a second about what it could mean in the context of Kurt Rosenwinkel... :)

Water, just one thing: I believe that the composition "First Circle" is absolutely one of the most successful and evocative pieces by Metheny. It's truly worth experiencing.

@Giustiziere: I've read so many of the nonsense you've written that just hearing you talk about yourself and start passing judgments here is enough to make me sick, let alone your so-called moralism. @Alfredo: before sharing "your" thoughts, be more diligent and perhaps avoid jumping to conclusions too early; kindly go check the "tone" and the "depth" of the "interventions" that this "buddy" has been leaving around here and there on debaser for some time, not just on my comments. That supposed humor is just pathetic. We can talk about it later, maybe, if you want, okay? @Minkione di RockAntologya: look, getting angry over you (this one was new!!) is out of the question, and, just to change things up, you're off track again; by the way, I'll tell you that you've done me no harm whatsoever besides writing absurdities. Nonetheless, that doesn't change the fact that to me, you are and remain a fool! As for the nonsense that, as I've already told you, you're free to keep on doing, I wish you all the best. Everyone gets what they deserve, after all. Nonsense for those who write it... and for those who enjoy reading it. Goodbye, mama's little treasure.

I am simply stunned. A psychiatrist (one of the good ones) should be called in to help this person. Both their mental health and that of others are at risk.
