John Fahey The Voice of the Turtle
Voto:
The figure of Fahey in the guitar scene of the late last century and its implications, not only musical, is undeniable, and the Supersoul profile with Pvc's clarifications pays homage to the work of the American guitarist. However, I do not agree, even if only on a minor aspect, with the jab directed at the politics or certain politics of Windham Hill and the things of its founder, Will Ackerman. I consider "Past Light" or "Conferring with the Moon," to name a couple, delightful and well-inspired works. If I then think that Michael Hedges (Aerial Boundaries is a masterpiece) found publication precisely with Ackerman, I must conclude that the label was not to be completely discarded. I also think of "Vapor Drawings" by Isham, or "Unusual Weather" by Manring, or even "Heresay" by Paul McCandless, or the very talented Alex De Grassi. It's not because Fahey is wonderful that the Windham Hill catalog, by contrast, should be defined outright as "unbearable gibberish" and that we should belittle even the good Ackerman, who may not be a genius, but is certainly a decent composer and guitarist.

@Mopaga: I would say that by the third round of beers, we could toast to the well of science Scaruffi, because we are not like him. Luckily. And the toast would be dedicated to you, ad honoris causa. Then we’ll call Piero (Scaruffi) and we’ll go with a nice belch in chorus. I’m sure he will appreciate the new forms of world drinking music. Even if it’s over the phone.

Well, look who it is, the mentally unstable one. How did your session with the psychiatrist go today? And by the way, who intended to be pleasant or entertaining?

So, purely out of partisanship and a sense of "camaraderie," I join the comments 5, 7, 19, obviously 22 and related 23, 24, 25, 29, and 30. You should have seen how once Vanoni, I mean Vanoni (!) totally tore her apart on TV. Of course, the "sweetblack" was on the other side of the host, silently taking it all in. (the sweetblack, not the host). Hehehe.

Oh dear. Sunflower and suicidarocchenroll, I didn't think I would stir up such an intricate hornet's nest just by inviting everyone to take things lightly, maybe with simplicity, without so many comparisons from comparative literature. We're talking about an album by a singer-songwriter, not Ugo Foscolo or James Joyce. What the hell does it mean to be the best album, book, film of 2009/10/11, etc.? And above all: who cares to frame the possible issue from this utterly impoverished perspective? @Girasole: and after that lengthy 16-line rant from the suicidal one, you call me "heavy"? Who the hell are you, then? Have I ever dared to express judgments about your character or the way you communicate, by any chance? @Suicide: look, I've read what you wrote and, aside from the "smugness" that was absolutely not intended and for which I apologize if you perceived it, I’m now gladly flipping it back to you, returning the word for the condescending and annoying tone of an uptight and touchy graduate you show with your know-it-all analytical attitude. What is it? Do you want to give me "superior" lessons? Are you really convinced you're capable of doing so, or worse, believe you actually can? Do I need to "take a tour online?" "They'll eat this for breakfast." What does that mean? What do you think you're saying? Who ever talked about what tone (unless it's, as you say, offensive) you should have? Or why should I ever stop you from talking about what – musically – attracts you, if you do so with respect for others' tastes? Who ever dreamed of preventing you from that? What have you understood, kid? My intention was solely aimed at avoiding unnecessary comparisons. Try to calm your pointless anger or better direct it elsewhere, perhaps aiming your rifle a bit better.

At this point, I'd like to go grab a beer with the Sicilian, Mopaga, Carlo Cimmino, Larrok, Panapp, Coolermaster. But I believe the list could go on. Maybe in our drunkenness, we could even ask ourselves why the hell we're wasting all this time wracking our brains trying to "explain" the things of a former supermarket cashier and her fanatic "lovers." Who knows what laughs the possible outings would bring... Cheers, boys.

@coolermaster: it seems you've really gone heavy, but the tone of your intervention clearly and ironically reveals what this is all about. I would say... I agree. It's a shame that the penal code doesn't provide for forced imprisonment for certain types of assertions, beliefs, or acts (acoustic). Perhaps "forced re-education" would be appropriate. But would it be worth it, considering the times and... especially the "artistic" scenarios of this absurd country? Who knows.

117 comments aimed at expressing disapproval for this singer. Actually 118, with this one. I quote comment 27 from S4doll and 77 from my friend Larrok. And I allow myself to add, perhaps quietly to the author of the review: but do you really have nothing better to listen to? Because if that's the case, it's truly sad at 24 years old to stop so low, thinking you're on a high mountain; I assume from your nickname that this is your age. Please tell me you listen to something with more depth, that has poetic lyrics, that has a true story behind it, that is the result of extensive study and great inspiration, and that really soars high. In my opinion, you can still be saved. What do you say, guys, is it possible? Give me a sign, Romeo.

After the less than stellar performances of Rubycon and Ricochet, the group had lost the charm of the days of experimentation (Atem and Zeit above all) and the difficult and splendid hypnotic balance of Phaedra. Stratosfear marks the beginning of the end of the "golden" era of Froese's group, which would soon find itself sailing towards commercially safer and decidedly less ambitious shores. Listening to it again some time ago, it turned out to be less disappointing than at the time of its release, but a strong negative feeling persists regarding the significant and excessive simplification of their language and the artistic depth of the compositions.
