Let's cross our fingers. Unfortunately, conservatives and reactionaries have historically always been a pain in the ass. At any latitude and/or longitude.

...not with that of Frith, of course...

Western Culture is really too advanced for my ignorance regarding deconstruction/improvisation/recrea tion (the latter in both senses), and I find it objectively a bit challenging. As for the handshake, I initially offered him my traditional right hand. In a fraction of a second, I then realized that he does most of his work with the left, and instinctively I added that one too, crossing it over. He played along and we shared a laugh. (I got Scott Henderson to sign one of his CDs with the same hand, not without some difficulties...)

Great review and almost great work by the Cow. It's a true pleasure to read these lines that, among other things, also provide a bit of history (which is not a bad thing) about this extraordinary group. I imagine you’re all aware of the dual edition (decuple!) recently published with an attached DVD (mmhh...). Unrest, in my personal preference, takes the third spot (1: LegEnd, 2: In Praise of Learning). But it's still an almost masterpiece. Personal Pride: I shook hands (actually, both hands, crossing them) with Fred Frith at a fantastic recital a few years ago. What a concert!

I understand the essence of Kosmogabri's intervention, and indeed the concept has a reasonable foundation. However, I believe that the reviewer's considerations, reflections, and complaints also have a justified reason. I even think that he wanted to reward the ability of a group (whom I don’t know) to emerge from an overwhelming and heavily penalizing situation by arguing—this is true, though also legitimately—about a disastrous and desolate scenario. It’s not the first time lately that I find myself reading on this site opinions and judgments about the garbage (not just musical) that is fashionable in this parademenzial era (see the review of "space shanty"). These are signals of profound intolerance toward sanctified mediocrity and stupidity, which I believe should rightly be taken into account, even with their understandably polemical tones at times.

I know little about the group, but I don't mind. I would rate intervention 3 regarding the (little) sense of the opening post. It's like someone quoting Siddhartha by Hesse and another responding: but it's old! Well! Hetzer's card is set up in a traditional but clear way. Okay.

Face, you are talking about the effects (including psychological/behavioral reflections) of wild capitalism in the post-industrial era. I repeat, I entirely agree with what you are saying, but I suppose that in private, apart from spreading a certain kind of "message," we have limited chances. However, if we manage to circulate the correct information and significant cultural-artistic endeavors that, as mentioned, have depth, given the times, we can already consider ourselves somewhat satisfied. Certainly, excessive resignation cannot benefit us.

I appreciated them, in their very light vein, afterwards, when "True" allowed for moments of "relax" from heavier things and, frankly, they weren't bad. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune, at the time, of seeing them live and there, they showed all their shortcomings in terms of expertise and/or instrumental excellence and actual musical depth. However, the review is well-written, concise, and persuasive, so it's great for listening for those like me who didn't know the group's beginnings, except casually.

@Brusko: It's not that I never give a 5 out of prejudice. On the contrary. It's just that I'm a bit demanding, and my aesthetic sense, along with my standards of judgment, are a tad strict. In any case, you can check for yourself (if you really care to) where and when I've been happy to give out 5s over the years.

Great enthusiasm and excellent critical spirit. I understand the anger over the dire Italian situation, but... what can you do? Nice mention. But weren't the If a (listed) jazzrock group from the 70s?
