Steve Hackett Live @ Complesso Monumentale del Priamar, Savona 29.07.10
Voto:
Arriving late, as a good (I hope!) last. I saw it on the evening of August 1st, a couple of nights later, in Trieste, in a splendid setting - P.zza Unità d'Italia - and after the even more astonishing concert by Focus, which deserves a separate discussion. This is the fourth time in thirty years that I've seen Hackett, and every time I'm spellbound. This time, the blend of the choirs is even heavenly (thanks also to Lehmann, maybe). Not even CSN&Y!!! Beggs with the stick is truly enjoyable, and the band flows wonderfully. One comment for the reviewer: It’s the first time I found Hackett cordial and smiling, and of course, it pleases me. On one hand, I spent three times waiting in line after the concerts, not achieving much (at best, autographs done for others!!!), and on the other hand, the friendly and very accommodating Thijs Van Leer was telling me how, at the hotel, our man seemed composed, a bit cadaveric, cold and detached. Well...maybe separation from Mrs. Poor has brought him closer to the audience?
Bad Company Straight Shooter

Good rock album with balls, without a doubt. However, being also a fan of Free, I would say that Mr. Rodgers should definitely be listened to in that context for completeness and enjoyment. Especially "Fire & Water" and their live album which then has a ton of bonuses on the CD!
Philippe Saisse Acoustique Trio Ready To Go

I have been following Saisse for many years now and I am absolutely convinced of the value of the balance in his sound philosophy. I have a soft spot for 'valerian', as Jake knows, but even these very different recent works are absolutely enjoyable and never trivial.
Porcupine Tree Live @ Pistoia Blues - 14.07.10

Well, just a great script for a mini-movie that depicts a day highlighting diversity from the daily grind. Well done, mementomori! I was lucky enough to see you three times and... russia on ice was always on the lineup. (!!!). I also agree with those who argue, and it's true, that the headliners of pistoiablues have little or nothing to do with the blues anymore (and umbriajazz suffers from the same contradiction), but so be it. A dear, actually very dear hello to the old drinking buddy from debaser, Dante Cruciani. Get in touch!!!
Michael Hedges Breakfast in the Field
Voto:
Well, hedges are not up for discussion. Giovanni could certainly have done better, but it still seems to me like a good piece, especially for those who are not familiar with the subject. As for the guitar techniques, there are Italian terms like 'legato' (naturally) and also 'strappato'. Perhaps hammer on is more recent and less widespread in Italian. I would also add among guitarists the extraordinary Pierre Bensusan, to whom Hedges dedicates a piece on 'Aerial Boundaries'. When I asked Pierre about it many years ago, he said he was honored by this but that Michael had exaggerated. Frankly, I don't know to what extent. Finally, a warm greeting to Fosca. I hear so little from you, but I see that you continue to listen a lot. Good.

Here, human nature, which along with Lauper's hit "time after time" found their most exciting and intense dimension live.......
King Crimson Red
Voto:
As a crimsonian of the old (but also new) guard and, apparently going against the trend, I've never had a great passion for this work. Especially when compared to the two previous masterpieces, larks' and starless and bible black, which I personally consider the creative peak of the Frippian creature. It's obviously a matter of taste and perspective. However, I would say that providence stands as the most advanced point of the album, well-known especially for the subsequent track.

Jethro Tull Songs From the Wood
Voto:
I'm on the side of the Tull fans (pibroch, roby86.....hey, hi guys!) and those who love the songs from the forest and consider War Child and especially A Passion Play great works. The reviewer and the review.......whatever.
Johnny Winter Second Winter
Voto:
Truly thrilling the duel between the reviewer and Bender. Personally, I don’t give a damn about when the albums were released. What matters is that Second Winter is a great album, and it is. And then there’s the fact that you should see Winter live at least once in your life. And that’s also checked off for me. And you, have you ever seen Winter, huh?
