In my opinion, this album (like many others by R.E.M.) has some valid tracks but lacks any coherence. There are pieces like "King of Comedy" and "Circus Envy" which I really can’t stand; "Star 69" is just an ordinary punk-rock song that isn't even that well executed, "Tounge" is beautiful but doesn't fit in the album at all, and did we really need "Let me in"?!
As a good R.E.M. fan, I put this record at the back of the line. The 3 is because, after "Around the Sun," even "Monster" manages to appeal to me more.
