Dear Signora ingenuapupattola, I humbly apologize for not having read this review sooner, although it is dated 24/8/2005, as I can see. I must have been lost in a sea of unresolved possibilities during that time. I am one of those poor souls who does not know Caputo (though I recall that, if I'm not mistaken, it is a candy shop from my hometown). I also apologize for the discomfort that the cover of the compilation causes me, but I suppose your review referred to the sound content and not to its exterior, to the mere wrapping. I am extremely pleased to see that, so far, the only review you have written that did not excite me remains that of the Afterhours, which seemed somewhat thrown together. I will conclude by extending my heartfelt compliments and asking the creatures known as "nani" to introduce a new rating, a 6, dedicated to you.

Finished reading: what can I say? The best I've read by Inge? The funniest review I've read on Debaser? The most entertaining story I've read lately? A distraction that could cost me my job? I don't know. To the posters the difficult verdict.

Okay, perfect, a new review from ingenuapupattola. Rating BEFORE reading it (also because it’s long and I’m at work and I’m afraid I won’t be able to get through it all).

another beautiful review, naive. I've never heard of La Crus, unfortunately (I only remember Giovanardi from a Tora Tora where he sang alongside Manuel Agnelli while groping him, oh well!). I need to check out some of their work. Anyway, you are really good: despite the length, I read everything to the end. When's the next one?

Beautiful record! I really loved "The Power Out," and when I accidentally found "Axes" at the music dealer, I grabbed it without hesitation. I didn't regret it. Electric wind from Brighton. Legendary!

I'm sorry Enkriko, I know I’m biased because I’m a fan (and quite a passionate one at that), but it doesn’t seem very true that no one cares about them besides Italians. For example, the last album was co-produced by Greg Dulli. Greg has also played with them on tour, telling everyone how much he appreciates them and that, if translated into English, they would do well in America. Here, check out this link to an interview before the Twilight Singers concert in Rome: Hotel Economici & Migliori Eventi only on Sonorika.com
If you don’t want to read the whole thing, here’s an excerpt of what Greg says about Afterhours' music: “Every time someone asks me what Afterhours is like, I always have a hard time explaining it. It’s not easy to explain. They have a very personal style, and that is rare in rock’n’roll." So at least he doesn’t find them trivial at all.
Then, as if that weren’t enough, even Mark Lanegan must think they’re good, if it’s true that in the joint project Dulli / Lanegan, called "Gutter Twins," Afterhours will also join, at least for the planned live shows.

Live view. She was a little tipsy, but just a bit: she managed to hold it together for the entire concert. Enchanting: when it was just her and the piano, well, wow. Then she came out to sign autographs after the concert was over. A bit high, but smiling. She lay down on the floor, under the stage, with us fans forming a frame around her, doodling on bags, on an arm, of course on her CDs (even on mine, and I have to say that if I look at it now with a bit of rationality, she basically defaced it, but who cares). Maybe it’s a silly thing, but it was an incredible moment, almost “religious.” She may not be a top model, but she’s irresistible, her and the album (and the previous albums, and probably even when she sings at home while doing the dishes, assuming she has dishes at home and not just glasses).

I was re-reading the review: very beautiful, just like the album is very very very beautiful. However, I don't see Closet Meraviglia as that distant or immediate: I have always approached it like a smoky pub full of lost souls in remorse, where your glass of scotch and some ghost stories are waiting for you, with "troppa notte" waiting outside. Maybe Gran Calavera has drier, essential, austere sounds: it’s seemingly colder (even though I inevitably melt at Nada's voice), yet it seems strongly connected to Closet by this anxiety of night, with distant lights. I would draw a thick line instead between the last two and the first two albums of Cesarone.

Wow! I saw them too in an absurd split concert with Cat Power at La Palma (around 2004, I think). Basically, you’ve described that concert as well (minus the songs from the new album and, uhm, maybe also minus Secret Wars): a miraculous review (not to mention very nice). They are too absurd: I didn't know them at all when I heard them at La Palma (I went there to see my beloved Chan Marshall), but they won me over. Especially the song river tormentonazzo at the end, the one with light light light: so funny.
