I read an interesting interview with Ferro years ago. He has faced two psychological complexes in front of society. One is being homosexual (I can’t bring myself to write or say the term gay and I never will – I really don’t like it, it irritates me immensely. Did you know that the term, before being adopted by the homosexual community, was used by English speakers to define a foolish person? "too gay" = too stupid).. going back to Ferro: two physical complexes, namely being gay and being obese. In the interview, he said that for him, overcoming the complex of obesity was much more difficult and terrible (even today he struggles with feeling "fat" and constantly battles diets and sacrifices) than being homosexual. And that talking about his obesity costs him more than talking about his sexual preference, given that these days being obese is considered a great shame: it's sort of like, homosexual yes, but fat no.
