When Icarus Falls Circles

I still believe in the sacred spread of the word! Reviews also serve this purpose. To make it known ;-)

Re-reading these comments after years makes me emotional... Thank you guys! ;-)
Louis-Ferdinand Céline Viaggio al Termine Della Notte

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest literary masterpieces of the twentieth century. A revolutionary way of using writing, at least for its time. An style simply unattainable. Complex and painful themes tackled with intelligence and subtle irony. The review is nice and I liked it on its own, but I would have found it suitable for another novel; for this one, honestly, it seems too simplistic to me.

Dearest Bartleboom, I am perhaps nothing short of touched by your comment... I admit it, I rarely show up on DeBaser anymore, and the reason is that for quite some time now I have become an editor at RockLine.it, so I often publish my music reviews there, which I avoid re-publishing on DeBaser (if you want, I can send you the link where you can read them via private message). But what surprises me the most is that there are people like you who still remember me and my reviews, considering that I started writing for DeBaser exactly 10 years ago, back in 2004 (I was only 18!). Some of you I remember well, like you, Hell, Kosmogabri, Hybris, Openmind, and others, but since I am no longer an "active member of the community," I never thought that my return to these pages would make a splash even in one of you, as it has.
Really, I am touched, seriously. DeBaser remains my safe haven where I can share with everyone my thoughts, emotions, and feelings about something that has struck me deeply, whether it be an album, a movie, a book, or an anime series, as in this case. Since Watamote is not an album, I preferred to share this review, in addition to Animeclick, on this extraordinary site to which I remain deeply attached. I understand your dread and I don't blame you if you don't want to read the review, especially if you are not interested in the anime being reviewed. I only tell you that this beautiful "wall of text," although later edited, took me no more than about 20 minutes to write. Perhaps the style of my reviews may seem a bit elaborate, but the content is definitely not: I may seem naive to think this way, but I don’t care; I always prefer to give precedence to what the heart writes rather than the brain.
I virtually hug you, dear Bart. I will try to show up more often on these pages. I promise.

They have outdone themselves. After "The Beyond" (an indisputable masterpiece), I believe this is their best album ever. "Passing Through" is magical, "In Awe Of" is colossal, "Disharmonia" is as dark as it is enveloping, not to mention the genuine gems like "I The Weapon" and the suite "Vicarious Redemption."
A wonderful record and, as always, Cult of Luna do not disappoint. Much better than Neurosis this time around. Great review!

I’m listening to it right now. Wow, a masterpiece. It really reminds me of Solefald, to be honest... Anyway, it’s truly an amazing album, so inspired!

I'm listening to it right now and I'm really enjoying it. I haven't finished it yet, I'm halfway through and I'll definitely need to listen to it again carefully. "Blessed & Cursed" is amazing, but this might even seem better... I'm giving it a 5 on trust, but I believe it deserves it even when I've listened to it all. A beautiful and evocative review, it's a shame you only seriously discussed the album in the final paragraph; a little less environmental description and a few more words about the music of the album wouldn't have hurt, even though I liked the style.
Gatto Ciliegia Contro Il Grande Freddo Disconoir

My favorite from Gatto Ciliegione, along with Disco Blu. Perhaps one of the best post-rock bands in Italy. No wonder they are from Turin! They also contributed to the soundtrack of the film A+R (Andata+Ritorno), I think (the song "Non C'è Più Caffè").

I agree 100% with the first comment. Totally a stylistic album, very Cult of Luna. It's very nice anyway, with great melodies, but the ideas are sparse and it becomes tiring over time; the tracks are too long and difficult to absorb. A solid 4 out of 5 album.

I still need to listen to them properly, but they've always conveyed a sort of reverential fear to me... Songs that are incredibly long, too long. As soon as I find both the time and the mental space, I'll muster up my courage and face them! After all, I did the same with Minsk...
