Elliott Smith From A Basement On The Hill

wonderful record... but why do the biggest ones always leave?
Soundgarden Down on the Upside

But what a deserted island... everything is missing, new riffs, ideas, nothing at all, there's not a soul... a sad ending for a band that had meant something years before... coincidentally, after this album, Chris Cornell hasn't hit the mark since.
Slayer Reign In Blood

That the album in question is an absolute masterpiece of extreme music, a classic of all time, is beyond dispute. That they are skilled musicians is equally true, as is the fact that they have dared to embed Absolute Evil into their music (Burroughs did the same in literature). That they can also be huge assholes is a fact too: Tom Araya, regarding the coup in Chile that cost the life of the democratically elected General Allende, stated, "So what? They just took out a bunch of communists." Idiot. Conclusions: even a good musician can be a great jerk as a person. But I really like Slayer, unfortunately.

For me, it’s one of their best albums... and in response to the detractors, I say "the more modesty, the more s.... who will never appreciate it" (from Mondo cattivo). It's not just my opinion, but it's the same as what Marlene say.

Anyway, II and IV are two incredible albums, just like the first one. How can you not lose your mind over going to California? And as for the so-called "lesser" ones, Houses of the Holy and Presence aren't bad at all; quite the opposite.

But yes, let's give it a passing 6, come on... also because what came after is truly vomit-inducing... the last flashes (already rare) of a very cool twilight for connoisseurs (discotheque for example - how will the Chemical Brothers manage?)
U2 All That You Can't Leave Behind
Voto:
Very simply, one of the ugliest records in the history of rock of all time... and to think that back in the days of Unforgettable Fire I would have passed out for them... horrible in every sense, indefensible, unbearable to listen to, was it better to be poorer back then? They have never been humble...
U2 How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

Nickghostdrake (at least you love a truly unique artist), I envy you because for me the U2 are dead and buried; they have nothing left to say. I think "All That You Can't Leave Behind" was the knockout punch, like waking up in the morning to find you live among zombies... a horrifying album, not a decent song, not a sound, nothing at all... if only The Edge would decide to make a damn solo album, maybe something good could come out of it... but I remain convinced that albums like "War" or even "The Joshua Tree" are unrepeatable. Then when I hear Bono singing with Pavarotti (and in Italian, damn) my arms just drop. It's less bad than the previous one, this, but by now I can't stand them; I can't tolerate these billionaires who, through (false?) civic engagement, have forgotten that you can still write a song like "I Will Follow"... I'm not at all averse to change; in fact, the glam-bowian-krafterian era of "Numb," as shocking as it was (it was as if Bono had undergone surgery in Casablanca), was fun. Even "Discotheque" may be kitsch, but... when it's too much, it's just too much.

Comparisons? Countless ones: Nina Simone, Jeff Buckley, Maria Callas, Diamanda Galas, Cocorosie, Al Green, the Nus (who no one knows, so why do I even talk about them? By the way, what happened to them?), Boy George (who duets magnificently here), Mahalia Jackson (especially in the first album), Alison Moyet, Siouxie. In short, this is an extraordinary artist and one of the few albums in recent months that truly deserves to be called a MASTERPIECE. As for the gays, well, first of all, he’s a drag queen, which is a bit different (gays don’t want to become women, don’t get confused), and he is certainly a great artist, not the trash of Platinette or that garbage... ā€œI don’t understand how one cannot love womenā€ you could have skipped that... but how can you seek tolerance on the site and be the first to make it a matter of principle? Anyway, aside from the controversies, it’s an incredible album.

God is just a marketing product, with a face that looks like the typical strict teacher who then gives it to you... joking aside, if only he would try to make a less trendy product, but no... I’m fed up with Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and that kind of stuff, even though I must admit that in terms of schmoozing and selling herself, at least she has class compared to those nobodies I've mentioned above.
