Who has been to Formentera, the golden exile of the hippies? Is the windmill that was on the cover still there? It's a magnificent place.
Phil Collins Hits
Voto:
Collins is okay only when he does soul covers like "you can't hurry love" which is by The Supremes (did the reviewer know that?). Then as a bassist even in Brand X, which nobody knows but are quite interesting... in short, I just can't stand it, it's MTV stuff. Let’s not even talk about the records he made with Genesis after Gabriel; I would save a couple but really, other people have made music history: Nick Drake, Joe Strummer, Presley, Johnny Cash, Bon Scott, Muddy Waters, Janis Joplin, Toni Iommi, Tim Buckley, John Lydon, Brian Eno, Miles Davis, Prince, Chuck Berry, Robert Plant.
Pink Floyd Ummagumma
Voto:
Ummagumma... the live part is an absolute 10 dream... the studio part perhaps deserves a 7, but it’s not tedious at all as many wrote; there are several evocative moments, especially in Gilmour's piece. And beyond the controversies, it's an album not to be missed.

Pink Floyd The Final Cut
Voto:
First point: I have my doubts about Waters being a genius (a great manipulator and egocentric, yes).
Second point: his solo albums are pretty dire, aside from a few rare sparks.
Third point: he is completely out of tune.
Fourth point: "the final cut" is not the horror that people say it is, but it’s not great either. "The post war dream" and the song about the atomic bomb are the only redeemable parts. The rest is truly an indigestible mash of anti-militarist rhetoric, and while we’re at it, I’d add that "not now John" is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever listened to in my life, with those backing vocals that wouldn’t be out of place at a papal gathering...
It's the law of survival, and this comes from someone who wasn't particularly enchanted by "the wall" (which remains a good album despite a few kitschy moments).
The point is that Waters hasn’t done anything but dress the music in his own paranoia, rummaging through it as if it were his only lifeline... a psychiatrist would have been better. As for the Floyd, one must acknowledge that "the wall," with its rockstar syndrome of isolation from the world, had its charm, but here I see none. I already know I’m going to get a ton of insults, but at least I’m not the only one who thinks the Floyd post-"the wall" are finished. Along with 95% of the international press.
Pink Floyd The Dark Side Of The Moon
Voto:
I'm sharing Easycure... for the dark side... I've never gone on a delusion spree, and in fact, the entire second part, that emphasis on us and them and eclipse has deeply bothered me. However, I believe it's a necessary album. That Ummagumma or The Piper at the Gates... or even Meddle are a different thing is well known. I can’t wait to refresh this integralist mythology surrounding albums that have, so to speak, "made history." To be honest, a single album by Brian Eno is worth double these songs.
The Flying Luttenbachers Destroy All Music

The noise masterpiece of the Nostradamus era... delicate maidens in search of sweet rhymes and light notes should refrain.
Slayer Reign In Blood
Voto:
Really... it’s a statement I heard in a music magazine, and I believe it’s quite reliable. I never said that Slayer are Nazis, but certainly Araya has shown that he doesn’t know the history of his people (in fact, as you say, he is disinterested in politics). It was a shameful page for democracy and led to the imposed triumph (by the USA) of a despicable figure who brought blood and death to the country: Pinochet. In short, let’s stop glorifying figures outside of music: nowhere is it written that a good musician must also be a decent person.
