British Sea Power Do You Like Rock Music?

So, you didn't like the album? It seems to me like the best from BSP. The first one was good but a bit raw, the second was a disappointment, this one seems full of interesting ideas.

Ah dear Grant, the old question about the stars. One and two stars are negative judgments; everyone agrees on this. Five stars are only for the great albums. We're left with either three or four stars for all the variables that are the most common. It's not that I criticized it much; I just said that towards the end it drops off and that it won’t change the world. If it had had these two qualities, it would have been five stars.

I don't like Pink Floyd. Do we have the right to say that we don't like Pink Floyd or not? They are liked by everyone; we are a tiny minority in the world that doesn’t like them. Have mercy on us, what do you want, unanimity? We tried, yes, but to us, "Money" doesn’t say much; we don’t think it’s bad, for heaven's sake, it’s just that the music of Pink Floyd seems soulless to us. Cold. It doesn’t communicate anything to us. Zero emotions. So what do you want? We like Barrett because he sounds less perfect; we’re those who appreciate raw emotion, the off-key voice, the guitar that’s a bit like that.

Well... rather than irony, mentioning Joy Division in the title feels more like pretentiousness to me. The album is mediocre like much of the latest wave from England. And I'm saying this as an Anglophile. At least the Kaiser Chiefs have some good singles.

beautiful review. I just discovered them recently. I got a beautiful reissue on CD released this year. It's the perfect re-issue: there are 3 CDs: the first, rightly, presents the album without any extra tracks to break the mood. the second has everything they recorded except the album (EP etc), and the third contains the Peel sessions. What more could you want? Perhaps a booklet with photos and a long and beautiful essay by Simon Reynolds on YMG. Reissue of the year.

The Beatles Paperback Writer b/w Rain

beautiful and precise review. rain is undoubtedly one of the most important pieces by the beatles. absolutely great. I wouldn't overlook paperback writer either, a track from the mid-sixties. turn it up loud now and discover that it flows wonderfully. probably one of the most beautiful singles in history between side A and side B.
