Some time ago, I read some of his poems and was truly struck, 'Tristia' among them. Passion and resignation emerge violently in his writings. Carefully 'contained in content,' as you say, but not too much, his dissent against power culminates in the 'Epigramma di Stalin,' which leads to his second arrest and subsequent death in a gulag in cold Siberia. The thoughts of free men in a 'controlled' state are the handwritten testament of martyrdom. A beautiful proposal, excellently written, as always.
