It's hard to contradict Isis about the free radio wave in the late seventies and early eighties. Another thing entirely was the ferment generated by that meta-phenomenon of marketing and possibly well-paid militant criticism that copied articles from NME and MOJO (just to name a couple) for the local magazines. In Italy, seeds of the new wave were being sown from Pordenone and Florence, in addition to the inevitable, because Eurocentric—at least for once—Milan. And the furry-haired and the prince filled the stadiums, as did Baglioni, who has never stopped... but for me, it has always been another kind of music.

Being a singer-songwriter is a tough job. If the over-60s/70s continue to dominate, could it be that there are very few new talents? And when something interesting does pop up, like Ingrediente Novus by Moltheni, no one pays any attention… the new singer-songwriters, if they even exist, with their furrowed brows and eyes turned inward at their own navels, are a pale imitation of the bison we wish to take down and eliminate (and who know how to do the job of the new ones much better). In any case, better Belen, with great effort of imagination.

Emilian Communism? Unipol style? I would say no. And if they sing of their youth as a mythical era, what's so wrong with that? Perhaps we spit on our world of memories or sugarcoat it? Friends and comrades of Debaser, no fear: revolutions are made by the masses in the square (for now they’re clogging the hypermarkets), not these reader-singer-songwriter-real estate agents who aren't even immortalized with a raised fist like Demetrio Stratos.
