Jazz at the Plaza is the recording (09.09.1958), which was not initially planned (the album would only be released in 1973), of a portion of the promotional celebration of Columbia, the leader in jazz sales, which also featured Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday. Given these premises, I can only imagine the spirit with which the sextet took to the stage. They certainly could have done better, and the audio quality is mediocre. Jimmy Cobb (and not Ph.J.Jones...) played the drums prepared for Sam Woodyard, Ellington's drummer...
