Several tests are conducted on this sample to search for bacteria. # The fourth swab is used exclusively for the detection of Mycoplasma, with a peculiar medium and specific search. # The fifth swab (especially in women, very rare, takes on a crucial significance as a vaginal swab) is used for the fresh search of Candida. It is transported in saline solution, subsequently analyzed under an optical microscope (without staining), for the identification of hyphal forms of Candida, indicators of inflammatory infection. Optionally, only in cases of suspected infection, the fifth swab can also be used in men, but in a non-urethral site; collection should indeed occur in the glans and the balanopreputial sulcus.
