Damn, true... from the names you mention, it’s clear that it was about speed; I mean: he was surpassed by the faster ones Petrucci and Vai. I believe Malmsteen also gave him a run for his money...

A bit of new wave is dusted off with these latest Debaserian recoveries. And Debbie Harry, besides being talented, was (Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)(y)

Stoney, I believe you were referring to me, but I am aware that I mixed things up with at least one of my comments: a record either resonates with you or it doesn’t, and you can only determine that with certainty after (which is not ONE) a careful listen, period; what cannot be questioned is the historical importance that the VU had on the birth of (more than) one genre primarily, and on all the bands that since then have departed from their now stereotypical way of conceiving rock 'n' roll thanks to them.

Well, in the meantime, I'll rush to express my DeLove for Lucifer, who knows, maybe all of a sudden I’ll start playing blues like Robert Johnson... Pannzzoone, I don’t understand you when you speak, and I wouldn’t even have anything to complain about if it weren’t for the fact that: a) you’re always underfoot and systematically saying some bullshit; b) you’re always dirtying the DePlaylist talking about anything that has nothing to do with a playlist; c) where there’s a brawl, you’re always the one sowing discord, and many other lovely things. I’ll try to respond to what I understood: Manolis, a perfect stranger I’ve never seen on the site, raved about my supposed ignorance and I responded, probably in an unorthodox way, but who cares: I was discussing your respect, not mine. As for the notions, well, nothing... try to follow a chronological path in the history of rock music, you’ll realize that in 1967 no one played it (rock 'n' roll) like Reed and company. Alternatively, find me a rock band from that era that created all that ruckus; tell me in which rock band, from the same artistic context (?!? it didn’t exist), the electric viola was played so obsessively and hypnotically; tell me who else shoved heroin in your face while composing the lyrics of “Heroin”; tell me how it was possible that the chord progression of “I’m Waiting For My Man” on “Up to Lexington, one two five” anticipated punk by a decade and one of its most overused riffs. In short, I’m fed up, but I could keep going. Actually, no, tell me who else punched you in the face with a record from '68 (“I Heard Her Call My Name”); ask the Stones (ask Jagger about the plagiaristic cadence), the Stooges, Bowie, the JAMC, Sonic Youth, Big Black, MBV, etc. to name their influences. Manolis, great names, too bad they have nothing to do with the Velvet Underground or rock music. I like Coltrane and that doesn’t preclude me from enjoying the babà reviewed here. It didn’t seem to me that jazz was the nirvana of music that serenely watches over all other genres. However, I find it true that, as the second greatest said, “nothing comes from diamonds, from manure flowers are born.” So welcome even if for you this record is crap. You don’t like the Velvet Underground? Your problem, not theirs. But when even the recognition of merits is lacking, I tell you that you don’t understand a damn thing! Enjoy yourselves with Segovia, but yours is a selective open-mindedness: as if you didn’t have it.

Dear Manolis, a) you do not know me, so you cannot know what musical culture I have; b) from the heights of my arrogance, I also tell you that I doubt you know as much as I do; c) what I limited myself to saying was an indisputable truth: the artistic merit and historical importance of the work of the Velvet Underground cannot be questioned; you may not like it, that's true, often when it’s not understood (due to poor quality/quantity of listening in the approach) and/or when one lacks historical knowledge, and that’s your problem, it can happen, right? But it’s your problem; d) I am not on anyone's side; this is my opinion, which you, in your need to align yourself with the troll, lack, and therefore I would invite you to: 1) not speak to me, especially if you intend to disrespect me - who the hell knows you? - with psychobabble insinuations from isolation; 2) go to your mentor, who, from the heights of his unreachable culture, must have let an entire movement slip away, and get two firecrackers shoved up your ass, because your intervention as a good assistant hasn't been too useful.
