Maybe, I don't know, I simply settled. Anyone would love to see a new Pink Flag, a new Chairs Missing, and a new 154 published regularly, but I've known for a long time that it's no longer possible, so I don't even expect it. It would be like hoping to get a woman in menopause pregnant. It's not going to happen. But I don't think that means the woman should be discarded, I believe.

Ah, Fiquata. I agree with everything you say, even when you prefer Chairs Missing to 154, perhaps, but maturity, I hope it's understood, for me doesn't mean "better album." I think this is a valid calling card "for everyone," and not a movie restricted to those over 18. That's all. Not that "maturity" is (only) this "simplification." I'm sorry to read a criticism (from a fan, moreover disappointed) of the album like yours, but ultimately, it comes across as entirely biased (on the contrary, biased in the opposite direction) and therefore, without malice, sterile and lacking clarity. By now, it was clear for quite some time that the Wire were no longer the same as in the seventies, and perhaps it's right that it has been so. Everything that has a beginning has an end. They themselves will come to an end, just imagine. But personally, I would have aimed a criticism like yours at the already praised "Send."

So, the review was set up a bit too much in my style (a dog's mess, really) and I realize I forgot (omitted, actually, on purpose; but I acknowledge it wasn't very fair to the brave readers) a lot of things. Therefore, I take this opportunity to mention them here. First of all, let’s say it: here on DeBaser, the Wire were definitely less anticipated than the various Verdena, but by no means less deserving of that anticipation. In any case, the album has seen the light twice: last December, in a spiritual format (digital), and a second time, in early last month, in a physical format (CD); it really seemed wrong not to mention even what should be the bare minimum (a temporal placement, for example), but I hope it was understood that this referred to the new, brand-new work of the four (for a while now without Bruce Gilbert, replaced by a certain Robert Grey - unknown, as far as I know), regardless of the star next to the title. What else? Besides the chosen degenerate album type, the rating is also indicative; if I had to evaluate the success of the album in itself, I would probably have easily opted for five balls, but, as the most tenacious who dared to read this page until the end will have grasped, the meaning of four balls relates to the conclusion of the "review." And that’s it. Actually, there were also the two opening tracks to mention, "Please Take" and "Now Was," "Bad Worn Thing," and the bleak "Down to This," which culminates in a bright epilogue. And finally, two facts that are by no means trivial: the perfect length (a little over 35 min.) and the fact that there are no (big) weaker moments. Both of these factors significantly contribute to the success of the album. Moreover, it was a nice surprise: I was not at all informed about the release of this new album and once I got it, it played on repeat for those two weeks. Fixed. Bye!

I almost forgot. I find your perspective on this album very interesting, Marla; if you’re willing, could you give me your phone number so we can arrange a meeting to discuss it together in person?

Anyway, there is an error in the review: it says eclissi, not eclittica. The eclissi Jennifer Jentle. I lower the rating a bit.
