It is obvious that one cannot reduce everything to clichés, but to "intellectual predispositions" one can: Truffaut, for instance (who certainly was not a populist), said that while it was possible to prefer Italian cinema to French cinema (and vice versa), it was impossible to say the same about English cinema simply because it didn’t exist (then, of course, he would elaborate on this, and I’ll spare you the details since it would veer too far off topic). In the same way, I can say that I prefer French cinema because, unlike Italian cinema today in 2010, it has preserved and maintained a school and sphere of influence (beyond personal tastes). I hope I’ve made myself clearer. Then again, posts like those from Jargon (who is also a very intelligent user) that generalize too much I don’t share either, but the matter can be approached from multiple angles. Bye.

A general speech, beyond the "trends," is indeed possible, Bartle: it means that in France they have consistently invested in their product (from all points of view) and in common agreement (beyond the "trends," precisely), while in Italy we have always been at the mercy of various "tribalisms" (that's the sense, I imagine ;-), of comment 42, for example). And since certain users have placed it in a general context (Italian cinema ok, French cinema not ok) within what seems to me a fairly "biased" discussion, it's essential to highlight our "organizational poverty" compared to that of our cousins across the Alps. Do you agree? P.S. Not to mention the too many 1s given to this work by Rohmer, then...

Thank you! P.S.: Speaking of differing opinions, in the first comment, Trilobita says that I downplayed the album, while you suggest in yours that I praised it, when I believe (or at least I tried) to have given it the right weight: that's the beauty of sharing, as there can be a thousand facets! (and after all, DeB is exactly for this)

I just got back from the Maiden concert and while I'm uploading the photos (I took about 200), playing Galacticos (my new addiction on FB) and listening to an amazing German microhouse album that a friend lent me, I stopped by DeB to see if any of my reviews had been commented on. But the comment from SM above on the latest comments page led me to discover your review, and I started reading it (deciding to revisit mine another time): well, apart from the fact that I really like Elton John (but it wasn't an immediate love: I had to go through various phases... the first, believe it or not, was Edie Brickell) and this is one of my favorites of his, I must say that I really enjoyed your review. I mentioned the transition phases earlier because, indeed, your journey from Blaze (which I believe your nickname refers to) to Elton John or country music doesn’t confuse me, as it reminds me a lot of the musical "journey" I’ve taken in my life. I don’t know your age, but I can only wish that when you reach mine, you won't mix Metal and electronic Micromusic ;-)

P.S.: I made a mistake with the verb above: I should have written that rather than becoming, it has remained, or rather it has survived as a cult object. Also, if you notice in the review, I even wrote that this might annoy some people: "even if some 'cultist' of the old Lee continues to turn up their nose." Cheers again!

But I didn't say that SS became famous for this album! ;-) I said that if it's a cult phenomenon, a big part of the credit goes to this miniseries. My point is historical: if Lee hadn't adapted the character to the mood of the British Invasion, we probably wouldn't even be talking about it now (also because the many SS enthusiasts are for the vast majority from my generation, which grew up on comics at a time when the 80s were sweeping away the traditional superhero of the 60s and 70s, in general terms). Of course, thousands of debates can be made, and yours isn’t wrong (in fact, I completely agree with the discussion about psychedelia and Kirby), it’s just that in my opinion it stops short of the re-evaluation (which is happening where it matters, that is, in the States) of this album. The discussion about tastes only referred to Moebius' work and not the overall sense. :-D

@Lukapiz: I obviously don’t agree with your "vision" and I believe I’ve argued in the review the reasons for the "problematic phrase." Moreover, I don’t think I brushed off anything about Lee, as it seems to me that in the small paragraph dedicated to him, I give the right weight. That "one of the worst Moebius" leaves me puzzled. In this issue? Are you sure, sure? Anyway, it seems to be just a matter of taste. Take care.
