John Coltrane/Archie Shepp New Thing At Newport

Paul Bley studied the klavierstucke by Karlheinz Stockhausen (elsegnasemperlu') and I mean by heart, from memory! And the pointillism and the sacrable. Not to forget the masterpieces of early Cecil Taylor. I should re-listen to this review.

The first albums of Streisand are magical. American songbook arranged by masters, unique vocal range and timbre, superlative interpretation, I don’t know what more you want, a Lucano? Well, better a nice big concert at Leonca dei Topogigio, that’s for sure.

Between pop and rock it all seems like a big feast. 40 euros to see Deep Purple at the sports hall, with 4 instruments, 7 amplifiers, 5 dinosaurs, 13 cobwebs, and the usual rigmarole. They’re living off their past, and we’re down here paying for it. Meanwhile, we missed Barbra Streisand's concert in Italy because the ticket price was deemed too "expensive." Okay, but can you compare that to an orchestra with 1,450,000 flesh-and-blood musicians, not synths à la Barry White, a mind-blowing repertoire, and a voice of inestimable value? I would have jumped at the chance! Just thinking about it makes me imagine. Instead, down with the boss. When is the boss coming back?

if you go to San Siro YOU HAVE TO PUT ON A SHOW!!! stage sets galore, mind-blowing lights, unrestrained stripteases, spit in your face, colorful sandwiches, matching outfits, and the music? the music? who cares about the music!!! that’s just an intention! damn it!
Andrew Hill Point Of Departure
Voto:
I can't believe it. The exquisite intensity achieved by Andrew Hill and Sam Rivers in Violence is something unreal, dreamlike. That intelligent writing, with its cutting structural predisposition, harmonically daring, worthy of the best contemporary classical tradition, dialogues and marries itself, rhythmically contrasting, with the overflowing improvisations, full of inventiveness and oozing lyricism from a captivating and graceful Rivers. Sweat and monitored freedom. A masterpiece.

So let's do the math again: if 10 percent of 56449300986 compared to the 66 that's gone down the drain in a row, considering the time on a session of 12934888 sneezes, are you telling me that we can question the common feeling? I would say we’re not on the same page; the numbers just don’t add up.

.....electric basses, guitar synth, etc. etc... I don't know him, but electric jazz isn't for me (except in rare exceptions), so I don't think I'll start from this....
