I listened to it two days ago and I came to the same conclusions as you. The violin scores are not inspired at all compared to Powell’s, Aaron's growl is almost completely absent, the guitar riffs are light-years away from the magnificent ones in some songs from the previous album... I won't hide that it was a disappointment; one expects such albums from regular bands and not from My Dying Bride... the problem is that they were a symbol, a certainty in the whole landscape of this genre and, it seems, no one will ever be able to grasp their legacy...
