Marvin Gaye Let's Get It On

Not a masterpiece in my opinion, but an excellent album that, however, can hardly compete with its predecessor... many of your observations are spot on; I particularly appreciated the comparison with Highway 61 Revisited and the one regarding What's Going On as fundamentally a sixties album!

Very good, I have never heard of them, nor of the album in question, but you've created an excellent piece that I’m very happy to have read!

Yes, it’s certainly eclectic rock, but in my opinion some solutions could have been better organized. I'm particularly referring to the closing and the second track, which is good but could have been much better... Rather than rock, I would definitely talk about rock'n'roll... From Winter, I particularly cherish Johnny Winter And... live from '71 and the album from '92 or thereabouts...

Well, beyond all the unnecessary debates, I find it a really great album, undoubtedly, but not excellent, even if I should give it a fresh listen... the rock component is very strong in this work, don't you agree?

I'll give you an overview of the BB discs I own: Live at the Regal, Live at the Apollo, this one (originally bought yesterday but I've known it for a while), a compilation (these originals) plus some compilations found here and there on the internet in mp3! I love his ability to merge so many components of black music, creating a blues in his own way with different soul tones; his very voice has a soulfulness even when he sings the blues! It’s absolutely not a matter of, ā€œeven if it doesn’t sound like soul, it’s a nice record...ā€. This is a stunning album that I like more and more the more I listen to it, one of the most purely blues in his career. My however refers to the fact that despite having accustomed us over the years to the blend (maybe 65/35 in proportion) of blues and soul, once he loosened (partially) the grip of soul, you wouldn't expect him to create an album of this caliber... especially since he’s in his 80s!
