Of course, they can be played with many instruments. Even Fripp has played Bach! They can also be interpreted in a Jazz or hard rock style, as you mentioned earlier. However, his compositions are strongly tied to Baroque music.

You know very well that his music is baroque; of course, the genius, the innovation, and the freshness of his compositions are undeniable, but it is baroque—this point is not up for discussion. What are the arias, the passacaglia, and other musical compositions by Bach? Baroque. Then it’s clear that some of his compositions are true didactic essays (see The Art of Fugue or The Well-Tempered Clavier).

Great review. We can really count many beautiful and valid interpretations, some are even superb. This interpretation is excellent, I have the CD. Muti is also very good; you just have to listen to his conductings with the Wiener (Philips)! I also recommend listening to the conducting by Karajan with the Berliner (1970 Emi). This CD, in addition to the 40 and 41, also includes the Oboe Concerto (K.314).
