Shakira Oral Fixation Vol.2

"Shakira, act two: about six months after the Spanish album "Fijación Oral – Vol. 1" (already at 4 million copies sold), here comes the English one, "Oral Fixation – Vol. 2," the second part of the Colombian singer's bilingual project for 2005. If with the first volume Shakira clearly expressed her desire to no longer be labeled as a Latin pop star, with this second work she definitively shakes off that label.
Starting with the choice of producer: Rick Rubin (who also worked alongside her for the first album), a legend of American music and a trusted collaborator of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys. And also because "Oral Fixation – Vol. 2" is her first album sung entirely in English (as "Laundry Service" alternated between English and Spanish).
Shakira wants to show that she has grown, both as an artist and as a songwriter: the sex appeal and her legendary pelvic moves are still there, indeed they are, but Shakira is not, and absolutely does not want to be, just appearance. The step towards a more mature pop is made, even in the writing of the lyrics, which often touch on issues such as the clash between religions (the opening rock of "How Do You"), or the struggle of the East Timorese population for independence (the dance pop of the last track "Timor").
Latin echoes can only be traced in "Illegal," where the blonde Colombian duets with Carlos Santana's guitar, and in "Animal City." For the rest, "Oral Fixation – Vol. 2" is a well-matched and colorful showcase that ranges from the Britpop of "Hey You" to the pounding guitars of "Costume Makes The Clown."
From "Fijación Oral – Vol. 1" we find two pieces translated into English: the catchy acoustic ballad "The Day And The Time" ("Día Especial") and "Something," which in the first volume was the delicate and romantic opening piece "En Tus Pupilas."
If it's now forbidden to speak of Shakira as a Latin pop star, it’s better to define her as a global pop star, because her music seems capable of convincing the Australian audience just as much as the South American one."

And for those who want to know why I appear semi-nude on this cover, it's a reinterpretation of a famous painting of Eve next to the tree of temptation. The cover of Laundry Service showed her (and not even for real) naked because... try to squeeze those two neurons of yours... if an album is called Laundry Service, it seems appropriate.

"try to write about a band or an artist of some importance to you, not necessarily a masterpiece, maybe even one that didn't turn out so well, but from which your passion emerges"... Great advice, too bad that as soon as I did it, the usual musical geniuses who hang around here pounced on me! In short, as that song said? You're handsome, and they throw stones at you; you're ugly, and they throw stones at you?

Finally, someone who does their research before speaking! Well done! And I'm not just saying that because we share the same opinions. I'm glad you liked the album. Look, in the CD I have, the songs in Portuguese are not included; they can be found in the compilation "The remixes," which was released shortly after.

Come on, don't always act like you have your nose in the air, looking only at French masterpieces or silent films from the last century, united in disdain for light-hearted movies, with a neatly parted hairstyle, thick foggy glasses, and a pretentious lisp that screams intellectual... then once at home, crack open a beer, spend the night watching "Roma porno" and call the switchboard operators filthy, all while keeping the curtains drawn so the neighbors and the little kids, who are asleep after the bedtime story of "Basic Critiques and Spiritualisms in Italian Neorealism," don't find out.

"their stories, all centered around sex, sex, always and only sex, set against a chic New York backdrop, all designer shoes and trendy aperitifs. In short, the forty-something dead in bed who sublimate this need with Manolo Blahnik shoes are not my thing. I find them repetitive. True, but we must also say that while it’s sad to think that the world has come down to this (and anyway the four girls are not stupid: one is a lawyer, one a writer, and one an art dealer), it’s quite amusing."

Of course, but in here there are MANY OTHER "reviews" that I find definitely more useless, as they don't review but a) insult and b) talk nonsense. Yet they are hailed as hilarious (as if we were in elementary school, where the words poop and butt are the funniest). I have a couple in mind, not directed at me (I say this so I won't be accused of personal resentment)...
