Well, I don't believe that genres will be re-cataloged too much at some point... a Spears and a Nick Cave will be described just like now! The idea of dividing history, arts, etc. into periods and genres is Nineteenth-Century (think Medieval, Modern Age, Contemporary Age, Classical Art, Medieval, Enlightenment, Romanticism, etc.); until then, it was just a bunch of things because encyclopedias were revised during the Enlightenment! It’s from there that we’ve kept this need to catalog and classify. If it's said that Spears is commercial pop now, it will be said so again in 200 years; she’s already been defined! Of course, it might happen that a cultural movement comes up with the idea of overturning what was defined 200 years ago and then becomes the basis for today’s and future classifications, but, you know... talking about absurdities isn't for me.
