Manilla Road Open the Gates
Voto:
Epoch-making album that, as far as I'm concerned, forms a kind of sacred triad along with "King Of The Dead" by Cirith Ungol (the most Epic album in the history of Metal, in my opinion) and "Hail To England" by Manowar. Speaking of Manowar, you previously mentioned that they have achieved more than significant chart success for an Epic band, but from my perspective, even though they already had some fame in the early years of their career, they hit the jackpot exactly when they abandoned the darker and more tortured sounds for styles more accessible to a wider audience, more classically Heavy rather than purely Epic, ultimately, regardless of orchestrations and choirs. What I mean is that they probably sell much more today than in the 80s, but in their early iconic albums, they didn’t need the violins of the Philharmonic of Mazzate sul Membro to seem Epic: they were Epic to the core, just two guitar riffs were enough to captivate you and take you to another world (obviously dark and heroic). The Manilla Road, on the other hand, while occasionally changing the mix, have always retained that dirty and cursed aura that has always characterized them and have remained (pardon, his majesty Mark Shelton has remained) always fucking, painfully, aggressively Epic until the last drop of their blood: evocative like few others. As you rightly point out, the trinkets (mostly symphonic) based on dragons, dwarves, and gnomes have nothing to do with Epic, it's just watered-down Metal good for those approaching the genre, nothing more: just a few notes of "The Ninth Wave," or a single verse of the same pronounced by the unique voice of Mark Shelton are enough to sweep away entire discographies.

This is THE heavy metal album par excellence: the culmination of everything that came before and a milestone for everything that would come after.
Dick Dale Misirlou

How many people are there today trying to imitate Dick Dale in the surf scene? A ton, but no one can come close to his class..! "Misirlou" is an epoch-making track, a masterpiece that still sounds relevant today, over 50 years later.

Oh, I didn't vote for the record, the 5 stars came out on their own...

Look, in my opinion, after "Louder Than Hell" they should have stopped recording and only performed live, where they really shine. "Warriors Of The World," as I see it, is a pretty nice album, but I find it quite lacking compared to their previous glories. At my place, it lies abandoned somewhere along with "Gods Of War"...

Dan Trachtenberg 10 Cloverfield Lane
Voto:
I haven't seen the movie, but at the time I had the chance to see "Cloverfield" in theaters, which was a good film, and the only thing I remember is that after the screening we all laughed like crazy, especially after one of our friends foolishly revealed that she thought it was a REAL documentary. The teasing that followed was something epic.
