I agree...sometimes the bands branded black widow fall into the trap of "imitating" 70s prog too much, this album is the glaring proof. The first two works are on a completely different level.

"It's hard to say something original in a musical field like hardcore/grind. Too many bands sound like identical clones, often lacking solid "theoretical/technical" foundations, believing that noise for its own sake is a value (in some sporadic cases it is, or has been, but, unfortunately, endlessly rehashing "Scum" is quite a sterile endeavor). There are a handful of bands that, on the contrary, possess a deeper musical sensitivity, excellent songwriting ability, and, not least, a more solid technique, managing to say something original even in this realm. The mind immediately goes to names like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Kylesa, Today is The Day, and, indeed, Converge, who marked the "noughties" with a series of stunning albums: in 2001 "Jane Doe" (a milestone), 2004 "You Fail Me" (a definite step towards darker sounds), and in 2006 "No Heroes" (another great album). At the very end of 2009, "Axe To Fall" came out, beautifully rounding off the decade." Just for this, you deserve a solid 5; you've perfectly managed to describe one of the most creative bands post-90s. The beauty of the hardcore scene is also this; they have always managed to be "innovative" and sought-after both in their lyrics and in the composition of their music. Forgive the delay, kemo, and between work and now the flu, I haven't even had time to spit in my eye: DD

So dear Geb of Knapsack, get all three of their albums... I'll just list the order in which to listen to them (LOL) so start with the first one from 1995 "Silver Sweepstakes" then move on to the one from 1998 "This Conversation Is Ending Starting Right Now" and finally wrap it up with the one from 1997 "Day Three of My New Life"... PS: I have the original "False Cathedrals" :D

@kemo I realize that unfortunately the TV is exploiting the usual clueless guys studied at the table, but as long as music is treated as a means to make money, alas, we have to endure all of this; just turn off the TV or, more simply, don't watch it :).... This reminds me a bit of the nineties when embarrassing bands like Green Day, Blink 182, and Avril Lavigne were associated with punk, or when that disgusting house was called progressive.... unfortunately, ignorance is a nasty beast :)) PS: thanks for appreciating my post number 3.. greetings to todos ;D

one of the best albums of the '90s... it marked a genre, a musical period that would gradually detach itself from the hardcore cradle to find its place in what would become the true attitude of emo-core. This album represents a turning point for "emotional" and melodic rock in an atmosphere of introspective and intimate dimension. From here on, bands like The Van Pelt, The Promise Ring, Indian Summer, and Embrace will gift us gems like "since 1994" and "sultans of sentiment." In my opinion, the great merit of Into Another was to draw from the post-hardcore vein of Husker Du from the late '80s and the genius of Fugazi to tap into a sound and a way of playing that is more ethereal and rich in zeal, which I believe is a statement that almost perfectly aligns with the "emo-core philosophy" that evolved throughout the '90s. The Embrace of MacKaye and the Rites of Spring of Picciotto laid the first foundations, while Into Another began to channel this new (emo) attitude through the remnants of hardcore, reaching its peak expression with the Texans Texas Is the Reason and the Californians Knapsack. American emo-core gradually developed in our country as well, and a clear example can be seen in the early career of our Fine Before You Came, who I think are an extraordinary band. PS: I want to compliment you, kemosabe, for bringing back to light a milestone of the genre as you mentioned in your beautiful review. Greetings from Salvo; I look forward to reading you again.... PPS: I apologize for my analysis; I felt it was right to shed light on a genre that unfortunately the media are destroying, starting from the usual clichés and stereotypes.....
